I've always liked the idea of RPGs, but I've had trouble finding playable (for me) ones. In recent months I've made my way through the Gamecube Paper Mario game, as well as the GBA and DS Mario & Luigi games. I really like the gameplay of these, which was really RPG-lite.
My main problem is that I, well, absolutely suck at most "harder" RPGs I've attempted, and I'm wondering if anyone has any other recommendations for ones that are on the easy side but still have fun gameplay and worthwhile plot. I have a DS and a Gamecube, so I can play anything from the three systems I mention above.S

Cap, the Zelda games are a lot of fun. There are players' guides for those, and they help a lot. You can always Google "[game name] guide" and usually come up with more than one walk-through.

I should say, I've played every Zelda game between one and five times ;D
Any other games along those lines would be great as well though.

Maybe it's not exactly what you're looking for, but ... Instead of playing an RPG, you can make one for yourself. I bought myself this software and I hope to make out a project, but I'm very busy with many projects as it is. However, I still take moments to make random maps every once in a while. It's fun.

Cap, give Chrono Trigger for the DS a try. I beat it on the SNES, and love the game. Of course, there are new areas to explore in this version.

Chuck, I've always heard that one's good - I'll put it next on my list and see if I can get it cheaper used (maybe the old SNES cart is cheaper than the DS version ). Mad Plumber - that's pretty cool looking. Not what I'm looking for right now, but if I got more experience in the genre, I'd mess around with it.

The cartridge may not be cheaper, but the ROM/emulator certainly is.

That's true. I used to use SNES ROMs a lot, but I've moved away from them a bit since I got the DS and an old SNES. That would be the best way to test my interest though - if I love it, I'd just go ahead and buy the DS version.

The DS also has great updated versions of Final Fantasy 3 and 4. They do some awesome graphics with what that little thing is capable of, and, plus, those older Final Fantasies are nowhere near as big as the latest ones. Four is pretty fun and was where the series really tried to start telling some more interesting stories.
Then, when you get tired of "easy" role playing games, go buy Etrian Odyssey 1 and 2. Them's some good stuff.

I think the Star Wars KOTOR games we’re pretty easy, but they aren’t on the platform you have unfortunately. Same with Morrowind and Oblivion. (Morrowind being my all time favoret RPG.)
Hmm, for the GBA you could try Tactics Ogre and FF Tactics Advanced. FF Tactics Advanced was super easy and pretty fun to boot.

If you ever happen to get a PS2 or Wii then Okami is worth a go Cap'n! Very Zelda like, it even has you going a wolf and the art style is just gorgeous. Good story too.

That's on my must-have list once PS2s either quit being made or become cheap ($100 for a nine year old console, after its replacement's been out for almost 2 1/2 years? What the heck, Sony?!) or the next Nintendo console comes along and Wiis are outdated.

Pokemon Platinum. You get the fun of collecting as many as 493 cute little creatures, and it takes absolutely no skill to play. Just keep spamming your most powerful move and you're golden. Despite it's simplicity, it'll suck you in like crazy! ;D

How about The World Ends With You on DS? I've heard good things about it, and the Nintendo magazine I read gave it a very high score. They tend to be trustworthy thanks to being independent. It hasn't been released over here so I'm not sure if it came out in the States either so I'm not sure how easy it is but it looks very interesting.
