As somewhat of a complement to the [Comic Book Movies Thread] featured in Mitchell's Movies, I am starting this catch-all generic thread for films based on video games: news, reviews, wish lists, rants, philosophies, et cetera.
The inspiration for starting this thread was [this page from Wikipedia] listing movies made, to be made, and possibly just rumored. Here is what it lists in the rumored or development hell section as of today:
First, I'm very much an old school person and I've never heard of more than half of these titles. Second, this was Wikipedia, so there's a good chance that a lot of this BS. Anyways, I think I want to comment on just a few.
Kane & Lynch
Wasn't that the video game over which Gamespot fired its critic for giving a lukewarm review? How are they going to react when the film critics don't like it?
Metroid
Since there's already at least six movies about H. R. Giger Aliens, a Metroid movie might be kind of redundant. However, I was slightly interested in drawing up a mock poster for a ficticious Metroid film as my own idea to market the film. If they were to do a Metroid film, they should have an actual athlete play Aran, not one of Hollywood's faceless anorexics; hell, Susan Powter would be a better choice than a Hollywood actress. Then again, the whole thing would pretty much be CGI.
Pac-Man
World of Warcraft
Oh, I have a script for a World of Warcraft movie! It's about a girl who sits in front of her computer day and night, guzzling soda pop and playing nothing but World of Warcraft.
Okay, that's all I got right now.
