So, what're your own personal Mondegreens?
(For the record: a Mondegreen is a misheard song lyric. Like, "He's got the whole world in his pants" instead of "He's got the whole world in his hands.")
I just had a hilarious one. I found a Stan Freberg collection at my library, and had to borrow it. I came to his recording of the banana boat song, and I could've sworn that the line the beatnik musician was freaking out over was "Highly deadly black tarantula."
And, honestly? I'd never noticed that line in the song before. But I could seriously see a line like that just popping up for no discernable reason in the middle of such a song.
So I had to look it out. Turns out the lyric is actually "Hide the deadly black tarantula." Which is less hilarious (though I maintain that it's pretty funny) and actually makes a bit of sense in context, with a banana bunch being able to disguise the presence of insects and arachnids.
Meanwhile, I'm going to go on thinking of lyrics that mention "highly deadly black tarantulas" all night.
Anyway, what're some of your favorites?

ELO's Showdown: "It's a real submarine" ("It's unreal, the suffering")
Come on, Jeff Lynne hadn't learned to sing yet, and it could be a vague Beatles reference...?

I don't remember the song but Bob Geldoff of the Boomtown Rats was singing about something being "Bullet Sweet" I thought that was weird, until I read the lyrics and he was actually singing Bitter Sweet. Ah the cool stuff you can come up with when you have a mumbly accented voice.
I thought bullet sweet was so interesting I wrote a song with that title.
BTW - Didn't the Lightning Seeds get their name from a misheard lyric?
(Oh... and when I was a kid, this made my Uncle laugh, I was singing the Beatles "From Me To You" and instead of "With a heart that's oh so true", I was singing "with a hot bath and soap too". ;D what a stupid kid!)

I forget who sang it, but I remember thinking the lyric "Bring me a higher love" was "Bring me a pile of love." My sister made fun of me for years for that one.
