Thought I'd bring this thread back to life - we have one in Music, and could make one for TV. One of my all time favorite films. A movie of style AND philosophical substance. I'm not sure what I think of this yet, it's great but does it improve upon the theatrical version? There's not a lot of big changes, it's mostly extended sequences. The opening narration is gone, he does move the city changing sequences to later in the movie and I guess he's changed some of the soundtrack but I can't tell the difference with that. I'm going to be watching this lot, I have 3 new commentary tracks. The one thing I have in common with Ebert, is my respect for this movie. I listened to his commentary (His track on the theatrical version was insightful) and he's helping point out some new scenes with this one. If I ever get a Blu Ray, this will be one I'll have to re-buy, once again.

On new release Tuesday I picked up Taken, which is one of my favorite films this year, and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, which I really enjoyed, despite my doubts that a Beckinsale-less Underworld wouldn't be very interesting (though, I am of the opinion that Doomsday's Rhona Mitra, who takes her place as Selene-prototype Sonja, is arguably hotter).
While not a feature film, other DVDs I picked up that day include all four "slices" of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles season seven. The special features were great, and each set (while only containing 6-7 episodes each) came with a 3-inch Turtle figure that resembled the original figures from the 80's. I collected these toys like crazy when I was a kid, and when I plucked these little guys out of the box, I couldn't help but smile.
I dug around in the 5 dollar bin at Wal-Mart yesterday, because they just tossed in a bunch of new movies. I picked up the special edition of Mission: Impossible, which, despite being one of my all-time favorite movies, I didn't buy when it was released because I already owned the original DVD, but finally gave in when it was dirt cheap because I wanted it in animorphic. I found Liar Liar, and even though Mike Nelson would hate me for it, I've always found it to be very funny. I also picked out a copy of the Grudge 2, not because I like it...more just for the hell of it, than anything.
I also went over to the new release section and got a copy of Yes Man as a companion piece to Liar Liar. And finally a $9 copy of Dragonheart (along with it's direct to video sequel), because it's pretty much the only Rob Cohen movie I can tolorate.
That about does it, so far.

I too purchased Taken and showed it to my brother who loved it as well. It's the kind of movie Charles Bronson would've made in the 80's. I really hope it becomes a franchise.

I went to a second hand store and bought a crap load of VHS tapes. Age of Innocence, Incubus, Blade....... Some goofy guy in the store(who did not work there) seen me with my arm load and kept following me around saying"I have a whole lotta movies out back in my shed" Needless to say I ignored him. I have no idea where "out back" was or where "in my shed" was. I wasn't about to find out.

I didn't buy them, but I got a pile of DVDs for my birthday. Aqua Teen Volumes 1-6, Tim & Eric Volumes 1-2, the second volume of The Brak Show (finally!), and Space Ghost Volume Four. I wanted SG Volume 5, but it's sold out.

Nothing good came out Tuesday (My Bloody Valentine 3D? Ugh. As if the original wasn't awful enough), so I opted to pick up the new Back to the Future releases. I own the old box set, but I got it in full screen (I read there was something wrong with the widescreen discs, and I wanted the set super badly). In all the years afterwards, I never upgraded to widescreen, and the double dip seemed like the best opportunity, so I'd get some new features as well (all on the first film, but still).

I found a used rental copy of Special with Michael Rapaport, I quickly snatched up this outstanding indie film.
Edit: And I didn't order the Hitch DVD as planned because I remembered that Deep Discount usually has their summer sale in June (and I figure that'll save me over $10). So if anyone first hears of the code and specific dates, let us know.

Pick(ax)ed up My Bloody Valentine 3-D. Haven't tried out the 3-D yet, but if it's as good as the Friday the 13th 3-D disc, it will be awesome. MBV3D was the best theater experience I've had this year so it will be fun to replicate at home.

Okay I'm going to bend over right now and I want someone to kick me right on the arse! A day after I buy the single disc edition of Benjamin Button at Wal mart for 19.95, I find the 2 disc Criterion edition, on sale, at Best Buy for $14.95 - GRRRR! Why, why am I an idiot?

I wanted SG Volume 5, but it's sold out. I need to remember to get SGC2C2 volumes 4 and 5. What with them being web exclusives it keeps slipping my mind despite it being one of my favorite shows. Just got both Marx Brothers DVD collections! I ordered them off amazon.com earlier this week.

A used copy I bought on line from a guy called Gizmonicinstitute. Don't know if he's on this board, but I figured it was a good sign. Item showed up in great shape, with everything intact (including the slip cover) Great set. I watched the Mark Motherbaugh segment, most musical features last about 5 minutes, this ran 18 and what a delight. I loved his score (what there was of it) and the movie was every bit as wonderful as I remembered it.
