I didn't hear about the stretching on Truman until it was too late. And truthfully I didn't even notice it, but now that I know about it, it's bothersome. Here are comparitive caps... www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1103757I wish studios would stop messing with the pictures. Stretching or things like the cropping of Hitchcock's "The Wrong Man" DVD or the hacking off the tops and bottoms of "Yellow Submarine", makes no sense.

Thanks for responding. I was sort of hoping it wasn't very noticeable in motion, like with "Event Horizon". Since I already have the DVD, I'm glad I passed on the Blu. It's a shame, because I absolutely love the Truman Show, and like you said, there's no excuse for it.

Wow, I thought you were joking about Ash. After looking it up, there's also Lynda Carter, Kelly Preston, Dave Foley, Tom Kenny, Cloris Leachman, Kevin McDonald, Patrick Warburton, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. I may have to see this for pop culture reasons alone. I never joke about Bruce Campbell. EVER. Ah, Ms. Winstead. Sky High was the first movie I saw her in, and it was an instant crush. Then I saw her with nothing but pink hair and her underwear in Scott Pilgrim, and I knew at that moment she was destined to be my bride. Her lawyer thinks otherwise. I can't even watch Final Destination 3 without violating that restraining order anymore.

Another complaint with Blu Ray, is leaving out extras. Sky High didn't port over the blooper and music video extras from the DVD, and added no exclusives. I don't get it. You have more room, why not use it. You'd think that could be a selling point, "Buy Blu because you get more neat extras." How does, "Buy blu and get less" sound like good marketing?
So I'll hold onto my Sky DVD, like I did with Ghost Rider (Blu ray is missing the comic book history extra.... which was the best thing about the disc) and the 2 disc Daredevil DVD which also has stuff not ported to blu ray.
Ah well, at least they only cost me (rounded out) to $4 a disc.

OMG! Not (500) Days of Summer, the worst movie ever made!
Anyway, I just picked up Logan's Run on Blu-Ray for like eight bucks. (Did they ever get around to doing that remake?)

i just got "Cloverfield" and the Spielberg "War of the Worlds." after all my anti-CGI ranting! i've realized that when i buy a movie, it's usually so i can put it on in the background over and over again to keep me company while i do other things. and for that, strangely, i've found that the way to go is to have a lot of mediocre movies where lots of people get shot and the world ends. why do i find that soothing? i dunno.

I just received the "Summer With Monika" blu-ray I purchased during the Barnes and Noble's 50% off Criterion Titles Sale. The other title I ordered, Tati's "Playtime," ended up being back-ordered because of the rush to buy it after Studio Canal announced that they had purchased the rights for the release of all Jacques Tati films starting in mid-July. I had to cancel it and ended up finding a blu-ray copy on Amazon. Paid two dollars more for it, but at least I'll get it before copies get scarce and the price sky rockets.

Summer With Monika just arrived at the library and they are holding for me. Looking forward to watching it this weekend. I found Hugo 3D for sale (got it for $14.99) - I don't have a 3D player, but it also included a DVD and the Blu-Ray discs. And since the single DVD was selling for $15.99 and the BD for $24.99 I figured this was a pretty good deal. And who knows, maybe someone I know will get the whole 3D home theater thing and I'll have a 3D disc, all ready to go. Oh and I watched the extras, first time viewing them. In the featurette about the making of the film, one guy echoed a line I wrote in my review pretty much to the word -- so either great minds think alike... or I'm not a very original thinker.

I just picked up "The Last Wave" and "Picnic at Hanging Rock," criterion collection editions. Should make my DVD shelf look cooler so I've got stuff up there besides "Zombie Nightmare" and "Girls Gone Dead."

^2 of Peter Weir's best. 8 1/2 finally showed up (ordered it during the last Criterion sale). I'm very happy to have this on BD. And that Criterion actually added a BD exclusive, a 52 minute look at Fellini's alternate ending.
