watching dr. z again, i've decided to admit it: i actually sorta like that folk song in the beginning. kinda catchy stuff, very 70s.
i've also always kinda liked what's her face from "i accuse my parents"... i looked her up and she ended up being kinda a famous singer back in the day. go ahead, i defy you to watch "i accuse my parents" and not be humming "are you happy in your work" the rest of the day! unless, of course, it's a work day.
any other good music, or even just guilty pleasures, you can think of from MST3k movies?

I'll admit to really liking the Fish Picker song from the otherwise execrable Hobgoblins. It has a sort of Killing Joke vibe that I find rather appealing.
"This must be that Basque Separatist rock I've heard so much about."

I still kinda like the music played over the credits of "Riding with Death".

I still kinda like the music played over the credits of "Riding with Death". actually that reminds me of the girlschool song from "zombie nightmare" -- come on let's go! (let's go!) kinda toe-tappin' stuff.

I like the score to Fugitive Alien. I particularly like what I'm calling the triumphal theme. As I've said before, it's a John Williams rip-off, but better than Williams, imo.
I find a number of the songs catchy if irritating. Are you Happy is one. Yipes Stripes is another (and I do admire how much mileage the music supervisor to that movie got out of that one song--sort of like feeding a family of four on a dollar a day!) Callipygias will slap me, but I do find Shine Your Love catchy and whoever sings it (she'd credited) really has a Voice. And I'm a big fan of California Lady and picked out the music and even, goddess help me, play it on my guitar now and then. I agree that the music of the Dr. Z. theme is terrific folk-rock, but someone here figured out the lyrics for me and posted them and the lyrics are really stupid.
I'll have to think more about scores. Probably a lot of them are competent at many points--the thing about scores is that if they aren't just awful/inappropriate, I don't particularly notice them, despite being strongly affected by a good score or awful score. (I just rewatched Roman Holiday, for instance, and though the score is not earth-shakingly good or memorable, it's certainly not obnoxious. It's appropriate for the story. This sort of competence is nothing to sneer at, imo.) I remember being irritated by the Devil Fish score, but I honestly don't remember a lot of irritation at any specific other. I'll listen as I watch and post again in a couple weeks if I notice anything good for bad.

Oh, and I really liked Dick Contino's songs from Daddy-O, particularly the repetitive but oh-so-catchy "Rock Candy." Don't hit.

I wish they'd release the soundtrack to The Incredibly Strange Creatures!

The Birds in The Deadly Bees are among the best and underrated British Invasion garage rock bands. The original 45 of "That's All I Need", which was performed in the movie, is highly sought-after to collectors (goes for some triple digit amount). Sundazed or one of those reissue labels released a compilation of all their stuff, including unreleased alternate studio versions, which I have. The only song on there that is missing is THAT one, though. I also have The Sidehackers LP in minty condition. The best song on there, a random psychedelic funk rock Hugh Masekela cover , isn't even in the movie oddly enough. If anyone wants to listen to the later, feel free to PM me and I can give you an upload link (the record is way out-of-print without any chance of being sold commercially, just so you know).

You know, I've really been paying attention to scores since you posted this, and...wow, there's just a lot of mediocrity. I did think that the score to Lost Continent was pretty solid, and I looked up the composer today, Paul Dunlap, and all he really did was B-movies. He also did Teenage Werewolf.

watching dr. z again, i've decided to admit it: i actually sorta like that folk song in the beginning. kinda catchy stuff, very 70s. ? I worked this out on my guitar and did a quick harmonic analysis, because it was niggling at me, why is this silly little thing so pleasant to listen to. And 2 things leapt out: it's in a natural minor (we're used to hearing harmonic minors) and totally avoids the dominant or V chord. Hmm, I'll have to use that idea and write something of my own using the same principles...

I wish they'd release the soundtrack to The Incredibly Strange Creatures! I second that! Well, maybe not the WHOLE soundtrack. Most of the score can be left out, as far as I'm concerned. But I really actually like those songs in that movie. "Ship Out of Shape" -- "Shick Out Of Shape," according to Mike and the bots! -- is so catchy and dangerous it should be considered a supervirus! I really like the other song that same brunette does called "It's not you," or something. The one that has a Patsy-Cline-Leslie-Gore vibe to it. I know it's their job, but I always feel bad that they make fun of the song and her singing. I think she was really good! Even that one western folk song is pretty good. The one playing while the weird guy -- yeah, that narrows it down -- is walking sullenly down the street. Too bad you can't hear a damn word of it!!! HAHAHA!!!

(let's go!) kinda toe-tappin' stuff. Speaking of Zombie Nightmare, every time I hear Ace of Spades by Motorhead I can't help but think of the opening credits to that movie. Strange to think MST3K and that lousy flick redefined one of the all-time hard rock classics for me, but they did.
