I'm going to buy it (I promise), even though I don't have the means to listen to it yet. People if you watch it, pay for it, it's like your stealing food from the mouths of Bill's children. BILL'S CHILDREN DAMN YOU!
(hell, I'm going to buy Red Dawn tonight, I might as well add the Room while I'm at it. Try to lend a little support for what it's worth)

I bought both the DVD and the RT commentary. I watched the movie unriffed first, and holy smoke, this is one laugh riot of a flick. It's so perfectly bad that you figure you're being put on somehow. I've watched it and I don't know what to think.
I haven't watched it with the riffing but I can't wait. Wow.

I bought the riff and have borrowed the DVD from a friend.
From all the reviews I read it looks like this is a great one.

I'm always cautious about saying that a Rifftrax is the best ever, but in this case I really think so. You are really missing a great one if you let this go by. Of course this kind of movie may not be to everyone's taste and it is much more "PG-13" than their usual fare, but I think everyone, including Disembodio, are at the top of their game on this one.
Yes, BUY the stuff people. Respect and support the Riffing!

You are tearing me apart, Discussion Board! Glad you guys like it. The guys loved doing it (I think this is one of their favorite movies now)... unfortunately it's not selling so well. It seems a lot of people would rather pirate it, which is a shame. It's reasons like that which puts the guys off from doing more obscure and cheesy movies. So, if you guys know anyone who is posting torrent links to this, encourage them to take it down, and buy the track. I'd say "ask them to donate" but people who are pirating this were never going to buy it in the first place. So what can we learn from this... I will tell you. Since the majority of RiffTrax's customer base won't go out of their way to obtain a Riffed movie like the Room (and probably Red Dawn) and the fact that the Twilight riff sold like crazy. What that means is that the majority of the RiffTrax customer base liked Twilight enough to already own it before the RiffTrax came out. That about explains it all. RiffTrax customers??:

<sigh> I hope this is not the case. I think a lot of the popularity of the Twilight Riff is bashing trendies who gush about the movie excessively. They make a great target for us cynics and are fun to poke fun at. I have been disapointed about the over reliance on Blockbuster and Comic Book Movie Riffs from the guys. I know this is a business and they have to do what brings in the money, but lately I was hoping against hope that they would come out with some good old fashioned CHEESE every once in a while. The Voodoo Man VOD and The Room were very much appreciated by myself and a breath of fresh air. I hope they don't quit doing movies like these altogether.

It's not about "liking" Twilight as much as it was the fact that each Best Buy had about 9,000 copies of it on the shelves, plus you could get it from NetFlix, or Blockbuster, or you probably knew a teenage girl who had a copy of the movie already. I think the popularity of the film has an equal say in how well a track does versus the availability of the DVD. They are both equally important.

What that means is that the majority of the RiffTrax customer base liked Twilight enough to already own it before the RiffTrax came out. That about explains it all. RiffTrax customers??: As funny as that is, I highly doubt it. "SPARKLE POWER" up there is more likely to condemn RiffTrax because it treads upon holy ground. I feel the reason the Room didn't sell well is simple: It's obscure and not widely available. Twilight sold like crazy because not only is it recent, but it has equal amounts of people who love it and absolutly despise it, and the latter is what is believe RiffTrax core audience is. They want that movie to be torn apart, and there was some very satisfied customers on their hands. In the case of the Room, I had never even heard of it. If it weren't for RiffTrax, I doubt I would have either. Hunting down a movie that I have no knowledge of so I can download an internet commentary isn't really how I spend my afternoons. Giving the hilarity of the sample clip and the overwhelmingly positive response the Room has, I might have to in the near future. Much like Twilight, I might add. Though, for the record, I never claimed that RiffTrax should riff older and obscure movies. While I've heard great things about the Room, the sales seem to reenforce my feelings that RiffTrax is not the right format for films like it. I do feel that they have been leaning too much on the popular blockbuster lately, especially last year. They riffed the Dark Knight before they riffed Catwoman (and they still haven't). Words cannot explain just how wrong the very idea of this is. I miss the Battlefield Earths, Batman & Robins, and Dr. Moreaus, movies that are widely available, not obscure at all, and are crap. But they do seem to be listening to us. With Twilight (and I hear the Happenning, though I haven't seen that one yet) it felt like RiffTrax reaching it's potential. If the Room is even better, I'll hunt it down eventually.

If you don't mind my asking, Torgo, about how many Rifftrax have you seen?

If you don't mind my asking, Torgo, about how many Rifftrax have you seen? I own a bunch, but haven't made my way through all. I think about 30...ish...more or less. Plus the Shorts volumes. I definatly haven't hunted down every release like MJ or Sky, but I do what I can afford and/or what interests me.

Well MJs having trouble with the last 2... I bought the trax for Room and Red Dawn, can't find a copy at the local store or library so I haven't heard either yet (And I'm no longer with Netflix).
It's all about availablity - Twlight is everywhere, in every store. Red Dawn isn't and the Room is a non entity. The problem is that DVD is gibving way to Blu Ray, so when those old discs go bad, stores aren't rebuying them.
So my next option with Dawn is 2 of my relatives, see if they have one (my Aunt has an impressive library, her bloody basement looks like a video store, lol - so she's saved me a lot in rental fees)

Red Dawn is in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart, up here. Don't know if that's at all locations, though.

Availability isn't really the issue with The Room. It's available at amazon, the link is on the product page and it costs less than ten dollars. It doesn't get much easier or available. The total cost of The Room + the riff would be about as much as a regular new release DVD. I think that the lack of a Netflix rental hurts just as much as anything, but it does go to show that pretty much any extra effort than just pulling it off your shelf will deter a lot of people.
