I think the Rifftrax page might have linked to it, but a few months ago Entertainment Weekly did a big, surprisingly thorough article about the movie and its cult, if anyone wants to know more: www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20246031,00.html Yes, I do believe they linked to that on the Rifftrax blog as part of their "Oh, Hi, Rifftrax!" entry. I've driven past that damn billboard in Hollywood about 900 times in 5 years and I never would have given it a second though, if it weren't for our beloved Riffers. Which makes my disappointment about lack of interest among the Legend Films Comic-Con booth peeps (see alternate thread) all the more disheartening.

As Conor mentioned in that other thread, those guys were only working our booth. They don't actually work for RiffTrax or Legend Films.

ABC Nightly News just had a segment on the popularity of this "worst movie ever." Folks are still lining up at theaters to see it and give it a Rocky Horror Picture Show type treatment. Wonders never cease. Here's the segment, if anyone is curious: cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?cl=14786238

I've already mentioned this month's issue of the British movie magazine Empire elsewhere thanks to a huge Miyazaki interview but there's another interview that's well worth reading if you can track the magazine down.
There's a four page feature on The Room with an interview with Wiseau which might be the funniest thing I've read in a good while. Plus from the way he's speaking in it there's no way that this was ever intended as a comedy. His stuff on why he has pictures of plastic spoons is brilliant, it simply boils down to Americans use plastic spoons a lot and everyone else doesn't. See it turns out The Room has some incredibly biting social commentary embedded in it.
The feature also covers celebrity fans who go to the showings. Of note to Misties is the sidebar of the feature which acts as an introduction to those other "great" worst movies ever for those who have been lucky enough not to delve into the murky world they exist in. Plan 9 and Showgirls are in there as is Troll 2 and Slugs: The Movie (the only one I haven't seen but boy do I want to now!).
Last and most certainly least is Manos. There's a funny write-up of its many flaws, the anecdote about the crew sneaking out at the premiere and the quote from Tarantino about it being his favourite comedy ever. Then it goes on to mention MST3K, or rather blame MST3K for finding the film and bringing it back to public conscience. There's also a quote from the episode "Every frame looks like someone's last known photograph".
It's only a small mention of the show but any mention at all in British media is more than welcome!

I just saw the last 15 minutes of the film on the Shoutcast TV MST3K stream, not the Riff Trax version. Now, as an MST/RT/CT fan I've been exposed to bad movies. This is a whole other level. Must order from RT.

Watched this last week, and I've got to say that the RiffTrax itself is only so-so. But, I think that's because the movie is so funny on its own, that it's hard to compete with. There were many places where the guys were mostly just pointing out the on-screen ridiculousness. Also, I knew from RT's warnings that there was Skinemax level sex scenes in it, and it was clever and fun the way they had "skits" overtop of them, but 3.5 of them, and 2 in the first 20 mins of the movie hurt the overall fun feel of the movie for me and make it a little harder to suggest to people.

Just watched for the first time and I'm still in shock, wow. Now that's a whole new level in badness. But I gotta say the riffing had me howling from start to finish. Haven't seen that many rifftrax but The Room is my fav so far.

Well, that's it, I definitely have cancer.
Also, I just recently watched this amazing piece of film. I am considering getting it via Amazon come Wednesday (payday). After purchasing it, and thanks to the fantastic reviews this thread has given, I am seriously considering buying my first ever Rifftrax! (Not that I've not listened to them, but it always seemed something I wasn't going to go out of my way to do on my own, especially since my internet is so terrible) This film can only be described as awe-inspiring. A veritable "not-to-do" list to for aspiring director/producer/writers. Only Ed Wood has come close to this level of silliness. I'm still curious where Wiseau got the funds for this opus.

I had to turn away during the sex scenes. Had to turn away from the end scene where the room was being destroyed as well- that was just humiliating. I mean, I was honestly embarrassed for him. My heart broke a little every time Tommy/John said "Oh hi" though. He seemed so sincere. Poor thing can't help looking like that.
Even so, I laughed aloud from start to finish and I'm generally the kinda guy who doesn't laugh out loud when he finds something funny.

The riffing on this one is fine, but this is one of those where the movie itself does most of the heavy lifting. The Disembaudio parts went on way too long for my tastes, though I get that they were heroically trying to distract us during those horrendous "love scenes." (It doesn't help that Dis's voice annoys the hell out of me in general. I cringe automatically whenever one of his sync lines pops up.) I thought their musical distraction late in the movie was far funnier. It's still one of my favorite RTs so far, though(I just skip the "love scenes" when I feel like re-watching it).
