Good News-Team U.S.A. has advanced to the Confederate Cup Semi-Finals.
Bad News-They play Spain, which they never won a game. But I hope they get the 3rd Place rank at least in this Tournament!

Congrats to the USA for doing not too bad, although it's alarming how old and creaky the Italians suddenly look! And facing Spain at this time is definitely bad news. Finally this bunch of perennial under-achievers have done the business and they may be a good tip for the World Cup next year as well.
The biggest problem with the Confederations Cup is that it's just another FIFA junket, another excuse for their bigwigs to line their pockets and it contributes further to the never ending football season here in Europe. The break between seasons is now a matter of weeks for some teams. Maybe I'm just ranting a wee bit as the sport never seems to be off the telly over here and no matter how much I love it, even if Scotland and Glasgow Rangers are a bit rubbish really, sometimes I just need a break!

Yes, and the U.S. kicked Spain's ass 2-0. We may win the World Cup in 2010. Would that be a shocker?

Yeah you won't though, as I said this is a friendly tournament and isn't taken seriously by the big teams. Don't get me wrong if Scotland ever manage to take part and win it I'd be the first to go mental with joy, but for your Brazils and your Spains it doesn't matter.
Still well done, as I said Spain are a fine team and watching them tear apart England a couple of weeks back was an eye opener as to just how good they are (of course they're already European champions but there was something about the ease of that performance that was alarming)!

Well, tomorrow, it's Brazil vs USA. Being a brazillian and a football (ops, i meant SOCCER) fan, i'll be watching the match, wich i'm sure will be very well played by both teams. May the best win.

It's okay to call soccer football. Just call American Football American Football. Even if the U.S. is in 2nd, this U.S. Team may be part of the legends like the teams in Europe and South America.

When i was in the USA, i constantly referred to soccer as "football" and was always corrected by someone, so as you may guess, i began to do that on purpose just for a few laughs. BTW, i agree with you. This team might just be the best USA ever had. I remember the 1994 team as being quite descent, but that was mostly because the World Cup was being held in the USA. Sadly, soccer isn't as relevant in the U.S. as it is in the rest of the world... but believe me: sooner or later, you WILL surrender to soccer!

Soccer is mostly a sport for Europe and South America.
The rest of Latin America is more involved in baseball, Asia is involved in other sports, and North America has baseball and football.
But...The U.S. is trying to get soccer in the cards.

In fact it's huge in most of Asia as well it just jostles with other sports more then it does in other continents.
