Where the Sam Hill is love for "The Young Ones"?! For additional Rik/Adrian fun check out "Bottom". Young ones the best show to come out of britain ever. "It turns out the whole oil thing was a lie." It broke the fourth wall every other minute.

Most British TV has managed to escape me, but I did get Fawlty Towers a couple weeks ago because of all the love for it on this site. John Cleese is one of the funniest men alive. Like, top 5. Also love Manuel. The scenes with Manuel and Basil are over-the-top awesome. The only British show I've ever gotten into on my own is Absolutely Fabulous. When I'm in just the right mood I LOOOVE me some Patsy. Throw in some Bubble -- even better.

everyone's mentioned great shows, but i can't believe abfab didn't get a mention until the second page! i used to have a tape just full of the show and when i was in the right mood i could sit and watch the whole thing from beginning to end.
i also love fawlty towers - i think i could watch john cleese do anything. which means i also love monty python, of course. i don't see how any reasonable human being couldn't love them.
i also loved the benny hill show. i think i told this on the MST social network site, but when i was around twelve, i used to stay up late on summer nights to watch the benny hill show. i had to wait until everyone else had gone to bed, because i was sure my parents wouldn't approve of me watching some of the skits. i'd have to watch with my hands over my mouth to keep me from waking everyone up with my laughter. one night my dad stayed up later than usual, and we ended up watching it together, both of us cracking up. after that, he watched it with me every night.
father ted is a great show, too - i haven't seen very many episodes, but i've seen enough of them to love it. are you being served is good too - there are really so many great shows from the british - comedies and dramas. when i'm visiting my parents, i watch a lot of bbc.
and has anyone mentioned the british version of the office? i still think the american version is just as good, if not a little funnier. but it is still damn funny.

I never realized how much of an Anglophile I was until I went through my DVD collection. The number of UK shows I have is plain wrong.
I love BBC documentaries. Anytime I hear David Attenborough's voice I relax and get ready to see something wonderful.
And I forgot Spaced. Hands down, one of the most creative and fun sitcoms of all time.

Well, on your recommendation I sought out both The Young Ones and Bottom at the library. Both were a lot of fun, but I liked the first show better. Mainly because the bizarre, off-the-wall gags came on stronger in that show. It was like a violent version of The Monkees with 600% more anger and loathing.

Red Dwarf is my fav British show. Fawlty is also a great one Back in my youth I liked On the Buses, Dave Allen at Large, The Two Ronnies and Man About the House (which was the inspiration for Three's Company).

Just wanted to add:
When I was a kid there was this British kids show called Here Come the Double Deckers, about some kids who used an old double decker bus as their clubhouse. Anyone else recall this one?

Just wanted to add: When I was a kid there was this British kids show called Here Come the Double Deckers, about some kids who used an old double decker bus as their clubhouse. Anyone else recall this one? Yep, one of my favourites. Used to start the long, hot days of the 6 week summer school holiday with that little beauty. Are You Being Served and Benny Hill really haven't aged well. Both are from the seventies and are definitely of their time. The Young Ones came out of the post punk alternative comedy scene of the early eighties, when the country was in a mess economically, a war was in the offing and riots were a part of every day life in the inner cities and the harsh humour in the programme reflects the time that it was made. The humour is still funny but so much has changed over here in the last 20 years that the clothes, attitudes and even the style of cars really does look dated. Two other honourable mentions should go to Absolutely, a Scottish Monty Python type sketch show and a Little Bit of Fry and Laurie, with Stephen Fry (General Melchett from Blackadder 4) and Hugh Laurie (of House fame).

Absolutely is one of the best things ever! Thank you Grape! The DVD came out not too long ago with all four series and it still holds up as a fantastic comedy show. There's even a loose MST connection as one of the actors in it is Morwenna Banks who was also in Joel's TV Wheel thingy!
I'd like to add a few shows that probably were never broadcast in America but then may never have been broadcast in England. Rab C. Nesbitt, City Lights and Still Game are three fantastic Scottish sitcoms. Chewin' The Fat is a hilarious Scottish sketch show. Well worth checking out those.

Top Gear is the best car show in world history.
In which Jeremy Clarkson is chased by baddies in a Corvette. He's driving a Ford Fiesta.

I'd also recommend a programme called Being Human. Its currently being shown on BBC1 but has already been shown on one of the Beebs cable channels. It's a dark humoured show about a Ghost, Werewolf and Vampire, living is surburban Bristol and is much better than I'm making it sound (which, if the truth be told wouldn't be too hard).
