Recently, I had to be home sick from work for two weeks and one of the menial things that I did to keep myself occupied was alphabetize my CDs by artist. (It was a long two weeks.) When I was done, I opened my CD book and cringed: the first two albums were ABC'S Lexicon Of Love and Rick Astley's Whenever You Need Somebody. I realized that this makes me rather uncool. Now let it be said that aside from the Bloodsport soundtrack, I own no CDs ironically. I love all my music completely unironically (and I bought the Astley CD pre-Rickrolling, so maybe I was onto something). I listen to ABC completely unironically.
Recently I had a frightening conversation with someone who informed me that Fleetwood Mac was "Rennaissance fair nerd-rock" and could not believe that I listened to them if I listen to David Bowie, Tom Petty and Blondie. I was blindsided. I always thought Fleetwood Mac was awesome. Later that week, I found a Fleetwood Mac album in my aunt's car-- my aunt who listens to Michael Bolton, James Taylor and Kid Rock. Could it be so? Could Mac actually be lame?
I also listen to a lot of Hall & Oates and love it completely unironically.
So how about you? What do you own that makes you uncool? I assume that most of us here are the type who don't seriously care about being uncool and nerdy, so let's share.

Don't listen to them, Fleetwood Mac is a great band.
I own two Aly & AJ CD's, not something I'd admit to all my friends, but I like their music.

nothings uncool if you enjoy it. Well except for Barry Manilow...

I admit I do have a Hall & Oates compact disc. I think it might be a greatest hits album.
I also have the soundtracks to Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. I'm also kind of embarrassed that I have a Prince album ... and an Asia album ... and The Carpenters ... and the soundtrack to Kim Possible. I'm going to go crawl inside a hole now.

What happened to the huge Fleetwood Mac fan that used to post here all the time...?
Edit:
That was StreetDreamer, of course.

There seriously isn't enough room for the bands that make me uncool, but here are some highlights:
Allan Sherman pick a jazz artist, any jazz artist (except for Ornette Coleman and Kenny G, they suck beyond belief) The Gypsy Kings Randy Newman The Average White Band (but only because no one knows who they are anymore) All sorts of classical music Loreena McKennitt
And now for the big one (drumroll please): Gregorian chanting. No, I'm not kidding.

I hate that idea that you can't like certain music if you like something else. Pure musical snobbery! As MJ says if you like it then who cares. And the idea of "ironically" listening to music is a crock, a way for people to cover up the fact that they actually like stuff some other people may make fun of them for liking.
I personally dislike them but Fleetwood Mac are cool, as is James Taylor by the way! As is the Average White Band.
Most people who know me think that most things I listen to is uncool, read "not very popular" or cheesy.
My nieces think my Motown and soul collection is just old cheese, my guitar music loving mates think all the dance/jungle/Dubstep stuff is ridiculous. Seems to be no matter the person there's something I listen to that they find uncool. But then maybe I'm just uncool. Ach well.
I like Coldplay, there I said it. That might just be the uncoolest thing I listen to but I like them. Personally I think they're an easy target for people to slag off and I've heard that whole "you can't like Coldplay and Aphex Twin/Tom Waits/The Blue Nile" etc. ad nauseum.
I say ignore em and let your freak flag fly, in a very unfashionable way of course!

Seeing what's 'popular' these days, I find my general uncoolness as a badge of honor. I can be myself, and I will, and to hell with anyone who dislikes my music/favorite movies and books/general obsession with 1940s fashion. By the way, I like both Tom Waits and Coldplay, so there.

You couldn't have said it better Trumpy. I'm not going to try to be cool, nor am I going to force myself to be uncool. All of that is just a silly game. When you listen to it, do you enjoy it? Hell I listen to and have been given a hard time for liking Avril Lavigne. But I think her second CD was brilliant. No apologies, no embarrassment about it. I don't listen to it to be cool, or to be un-cool I just love that album, period. If I wanted to be safe I guess I'd never mention this and just talk about my love for the Beatles. No one gives me a hard time about the Beatles.

Hey, ABC are cool! When I go out to the 80s clubs I still dance to "Poison Arrow," word up. Coincidentally, a couple weeks back I saw a documentary called Made In Sheffield, all about the post-punk bands to come out of that area in the late 1970s. ABC were on there, as were Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, Heaven 17, the Comsat Angels, Artery, Clock DVA, and what have you. If you like new wave or early electronica, I highly recommend it, especially to see what a charmingly pompous asshole Phil Oakey is.
Most of my CDs are pretty cool, or at least I never thought of them as being not cool. I've got Gregorian chants too (beautiful and moody), plus Mozart and Beethoven. I've got a CD of really crappy techno, but that doesn't count because a DJ friend gave it to me and I never listen to it, except for the one Gary Numan song. I've got Eartha Kitt, and music from Cabaret. I used to have the soundtrack to Grease 2, but that was on vinyl and I lost it. I used to have Duran Duran's entire oeuvre, but again, it's all gone now. I've got Johnny Cash, but he's REALLY cool. Hm. I can't really think of anything I'd be embarrassed for people to see, to be honest. Most of my collection is punk, post-punk, goth and deathrock, and industrial, with a lot of 80s and 90s indie rock thrown in as well. How cool that is I really haven't the foggiest idea.

"I've taken a slightly different approach. Seeing what's 'popular' these days, I find my general uncoolness as a badge of honor." I like this. I've always felt the same way, probably because I've never been cool. In middle school and high school, where you're pretty much defined by what music you listen to, I was always on the fringe, listening to stuff a lot of people my age had never even heard of. But I still get crap for some of the stuff I listen to, hence this thread! I was almost murdered at a bar the other night when I happened to mention to my group of friends that I don't particularly like Rush. It was instant Rush-rage. If I've learned one thing in my life, it's that Rush fans are extreme. I found David Cook on my boyfriend's IPod recently and he said he had no idea how it got there. I didn't even say anything negative; he just went into instant damage control. So I guess everyone had their own ideas of what's cool.

I don't like Rush either, can't stand Geddy Lee's voice.
Most of the stuff I listen to would be considered cool with a few minor exceptions.

I have a ton of disco on my iTunes, including a lot of the one-hit wonders from that era (Ring My Bell, Rock Your Baby, etc).
What else... -The theme song from Sailor Moon -Lots of Spice Girls because that was my band at age 10 -Some of those stupid Bob Rivers Christmas parodies. I'm sorry, but "The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen" is hilarious. -Various songs from Sesame Street -Alvin and the Chipmunks doing covers of old songs like Mr. Tambourine Man -The soundtrack to The Chipmunks' Great Adventure

nothings uncool if you enjoy it. Hard to say it any better than that. Big cosign on that. There's a lot of music I roll my eyes at, but if someone else digs it, then who am I to argue otherwise? That said, I have to admit that a lot of first efforts by a lot of late 90s bands - the ones that a lot of people my age want to front on like they weren't interested in the first place - are actually quite good. Limp Bizkit's first, Sugar Ray's Lemonade And Brownies, Linkin Park's first, Incubus' debut...Most consumate music lovers didn't pop out of the womb listening to Coltrane and Mozart.
