I was reassured by one of my friends at work today that my love of Fleetwood Mac and Hall & Oates is, in fact, not cool. But apparently my love of Talking Heads, David Bowie, and Blondie is cool. If any of my music is uncool, it's only so uncool that it's cool, so there. Eh. That's weird for me. I listen to Fleetwood Mac, Talking Heads and David Bowie. I'm sure a lot of people do. It's one thing to not be a fan, but to say it's cool or uncool is lame. I'm so tired of it. There's no such thing. It's music. If you like it that's all that matters. I listen to various things that people would probably think is uncool....Disney OSTs, Alvin & The Chipmunks soundtracks, Veggie Tales, Various movie scores and soundtracks, musicals, opera, classical, 1920s-1940s music, TV themes and soundtracks, Video game soundtracks, comedy songs, Hanson, Backstreet Boys, N*Sync, Britney Spears, Spice Girls, A*Teens, Jim Nabors, WHAM, Yanni, Taylor Hicks, Raffi, nature, Celtic music, Irish folk music, etc, etc.

Is Rufus Wainwright uncool? Because I fracking love Rufus Wainwright. Mrs. Shep dragged me to one of his shows here in Bristol a few months ago. It was actually pretty good. Hmm, uncool music I own: I have Glen Campbell's "Witchita Lineman." I'm not a Campbell/country fan, but that track is absolutely gorgeous imo. Also I've got John Denver's "Greatest Hits." Don't like most of the songs, but "Leaving On A Jet Plane" and "Rocky Mountain High" are amazing imo.

I'm 27 years old and completely unashamed about my love of Chicago/Peter Cetera. I'm not embarrassed by any of my music because it's all subjective.

"One More Story" by Peter Cetera is arguably my most favorite pop/rock album ever, and "Stone of Sisyphus" by Chicago is easily in my top 10. Seen them twice live and hope to see them a 3rd time this year.

I got really annoyed when I heard that song making fun of rich and famous people, because when YOU ARE A RICH AND FAMOUS BAND I think it is pretty obnoxious to complain about other rich and famous people.
But whatever. I know I'm uncool. I totally unironically love terrible emo bands and terrible pop-punk bands and I don't care.

I notice I still like bands that used to be cool, got big, and now are suddenly "uncool" (probably because nobody "cool" wants to admit they like what the mass likes). I may not like their newer stuff as much, but I don't hate Master of Puppets just because I didn't care for St. Anger. Or I may enjoy it more, like preferring American Idiot to Dookie.
Among one group I may be uncool for liking Weird Al but cool for liking Rammstein, and vice versa. Amongst my theatre friends I am quite "uncool" for my disgust with most musicals (yes, my darling Chuck, there are some exceptions). I enjoy tv and movie scores. Not just classical music, but stuff tailored to programs, like the soundtracks for animal documentaries, and I get pretty much universal "You're weird" on that.
It doesn't help that I just listen to things that catch my ear with no understanding of its musical quality. I just like what I like.

I thought Weird Al was universally cool?

I thought Weird Al was universally cool? I get the sense that he's come around back to "cool." But I'd say that during the 90's, he was either for kids or for those who grew up listening to him (like me). But it's only lately that he's started to reappear on the cultural radar of coolness.

Stuff that I'm fine with admitting I have: *Disco, and lots of it. "I Love the Nightlife", "More than a Woman" all of that old stuff. Just torrented I Love The 70's and then a nice person on an LJ community put up a collection of 70's music.
Stuff I'm kinda iffy 'bout admitting: Al Green. ... My Mom used to listen to it all the time, and just a week ago, I got the urge to download an assload of the stuff I remember. I swear I'm not even halfway through my twenties! I'm not a middle-aged woman!
Lots of Pop Music from Pop Divas. Fergie, Pussycat Dolls... I have Hips Don't Lie and MmmmBop, too.
Stuff I'm really ashamed of having: Justin Bieber's "Baby". It's... it's catchy. ... Shut up, don't judge me!
A filthy old song called "Peaches and Cream" by a group called 112. It's disgusting, but thanks to the recency effect, I have it and enjoy it.
"Pony" by (Goddam, how do you spell his name? *Googles*) Ginuwine. I live by myself, but I still won't listen to it without headphones. I don't want my... walls to know I have such a filthy song.
I also dowloaded the New Moon soundtrack... it was because of the RiffTrax, though! Every time I hear "armed with your staring fly" I smile! And that whiny possibility song... and I like Hearing Damage. ... Shut up; don't judge those songs! They're good songs; they just got caught up in a bad situation.
Shame...

When I read this I laughed so hard at work that everyone turned to look at me funny. I do this kinda thing too, even when I'm home alone. For some reason I feel like inanimate objects and photographs of people are watching and judging. Yeah, I have issues. :-)
