I really don't like "Imagine" also, and the people who think singing it is striking some major blow for world peace. Please. It's a vague, sappy feel-good song.

I saw Genesis in 2007, and Phil was amazing. One of the best shows I've ever seen. Even as an old man, he hit all the notes, totally worked the crowd, and put on a brilliant display on the drums (esp. during his drum duet with Chester Thompson). An all-around great showman and musician. I remember seeing a PBS special one time with him playing drums in an all-star band with Clapton, Sting, and Mark Knopfler. After watching that, I defy anyone to criticize his ability on the skins. I saw Genesis live myself in 2007, but I didn't need that to prove to me why he's my favorite drummer ever. He has such a signature sound. He was the first ever drummer I actually NOTICED as a child, and was a big part of why I got into music in the first place. I'm a huge fan, in other words. I happen to like his voice, but I can kinda see why some would not - it is rather odd. ;D And his solo work is a bit hit or miss with me, but then again, even the best of bands make songs I don't care for, so I don't hold that against him. Hate and "can't stand" are such strong words to me, so I can't really say I HATE any classic song I can think of. That said, there are many I do not enjoy at all. I will incite many to violent acts by now declaring that anything by the Rolling Stones falls into that category. They're just so darn plain and predictable to me. Like I said, can't say I HATE them, but I never have understood their popularity all the same.

I have to say that I too share Mr. Atari's appreciation for Phil Collins/Genesis, with exception to the Disney tripe. Or at least I like the hits; it's hard to appreciate the songs that don't make radio broadcast quality. I think my favorite overall albums, in that albums I find easiest to listen to in their entirety, are Genesis and We Can't Dance.

I enjoy good "pop" songs just as much as a good progressive ones. They both have their good and bad. But what do I know, I also loved Calling All Stations. ;D (Tony and Mike can hardly do wrong in my eyes, I'm sorry!)

I knew it had been done to death when I was in high school and a girl sang it in the talent show. She put together a Power Point presentation to go with it and while she sang, it flashed on a screen behind her, showing pictures of doves and people hugging along with pictures of war and disaster. I wanted to puke. Same goes for anyone who sings Won't Get Fooled Again, thinking they're contributing to the anti-war cause, or any of the celebrities who stick it on their iTunes playlists as "The BEST anti-war song!" IT'S NOT AN ANTI-WAR SONG! Pete Townshend himself said he's sick of people misinterpreting it.

I don't hate the Beatles and I can generally listen to most of their albums, but I have to say that I find Abbey Road and Rubber Soul to be the most boring of their albums. I generally don't care for listening to them in their entirety.

I am going to admit to something right now: there is a Beatles song I don't like. Two, actually. "Bungalo Bill" and "Birthday." And I've been hearing "Birthday" a lot lately because that's the promo song they're using for the Beatles edition Rock Band that's coming out. I like the Beatles a lot, but I know it's a sin to not like any Beatles song and I don't like two. Shh, don't tell anyone.

If it's a sin not to like Beatles songs then I'm going to Hell. I think I like maybe 4 Beatles songs at most.

Everyone's got songs by their favorite artists they don't care for. I love The Beatles, but I think Revolution #9 is scary-sounding, and I like Hey Jude until the chorus keeps going and going and going. Then I want to throw the radio against the wall.

Add me to the list of people who dislike "Imagine." I find it preachy and pretentious.

What cracks me up is all of my Christian friends who love the song Imagine. I guess they missed the part of the song where he pretty much says the world would be better off without religion.

i can't agree. there must have been a ton of pressure on lennon when he recorded his first album without the rest of the beatles, but there are plenty of songs he did solo that i love -
mind games, (just like) starting over, woman, watching the wheels - and i've never had a problem with imagine. and maybe it's corny, but i look forward to hearing happy xmas (war is over) every christmas.

I'll give you the Christmas song, but only because Paul McCartney's is another level of annoying.

I hate any Christmas song where the singer actually SAYS "Ding Dong" to indicate bells ringing. Ich.
