Wow...sounds like someone has deeper issues with Mike Nelson than with the show itself. If this had been written about Joel, I would have thought maybe the author was Gallagher or something. Just sounds bitter about something not entirely MST3k related. i w0nder why he 0r she hates mike s0 much?

I'll betcha it's that one guy that was obsessed with Joel, and said the show jumped the shark when Mike took over. I forgot his name, but I will bet you it's him (he was in the "This Is MST3K" special).

Yeah, his anti-Mike stance never made sense to me considering how much he gushed about MST3K during the Joel era. The show didn't change THAT much. This guy from IMDB seems equally irrational, but I don't think it's Shales. Say what you will about Shales, at least he's a professional writer (while this clown definitely is not.)

Probably some jerk who knows Mike personally....
A lotta Mike era gags/riffs involve the name Tad...usually a waiter...maybe Mike poked fun at some complete jerkoff TGIF co-worker named Tad & this clown is the real-life Tad (who's also jealous...'Mike is this successful comedian with a TV show an' handsome an' married to a babe an' I'm 45 an' I'M STILL stuck at TGI Friday's an' am now 300 pounds while Mike's still fit an' junk!')....So, if any of you dine at a TGIF in, I dunno, Minneapolis or something...and a fat middle-aged guy says "Hi, I'm Tad, I'll be your waiter, today" DON'T EVEN SAY THE NAME "MIKE", nor Michael, Michel, Mitchell, Michelle, Michaelangelo, Mick, Mack, Mikey, Microphone, Mic, Mickey, McMillian, McCloud, McDonald's or anything with a "Mick" sound...or Tad will be the grim subject of National News & another Michael Moore documentary!
Or perhaps it's a troll...it's a IMDB board page thing & random nobodies create all sorts of digital stupidity!

Well, it's not a constant thing, once in a while Mike during riffs or whatever, would throw in the name "Tad" or "Thad". I think it was 2-3 times during his run at least, but it stood out to me. In an early Mike/CC era Invention Exchange (before they phased it out), there was the "Waiter Baiter", Mike was pretending to be a waiter and went "...I'll be right there, Tad!..." (as if 'Tad' were an impatient customer). In Santa Claus, Mike made a riff during that "magic cocktail" scene, "Oh, by the way...my name's Tad & I'll be your waiter tonight..." I could be wrong, but Mike's always into the name "Tad" & often in the context of food service or anything related to it....at least that's how it is to me, anyway. I figured it might be some obscure inside joke thing...more nebulous than the "Mike's Keyboard" riff. The Brains often put personal details & stuff in their jokes & characters.

Tad might just be the name of choice for making those sorts of jokes. Lots of people will have a recurring name like that. My friend, Edwin, uses the name Shareece

These critics don't seem to understand that if we didn't like these movies on some level, we wouldn't keep watching them over and over again. And the fact that we wouldn't know some of these movie's existence if it wasn't for this show, let alone become favorites.

Another review from IMDB.....
"Underneath all the moronic nonsense about the planet of the apes, world destroying and ancient Rome Mystery Science Theater 3000 was a very poor attempt to imitate the many many movie host shows of the past. This show was so weak and amateurish it was sometimes even worse than the local cable shows that also try to imitate those old shows. The poor quality level was set right at the top by the hosts played by Mary Jo "Am I being funny yet?" Pehl as Pearl and Mike "The idol of hundreds of Rupert Pupkins" Nelson as himself. (Someone please tell this guy his stupid songs are even worse than his jokes!) Weak and amateurish doesn't even begin to describe these two. Pehl always puts you in mind of the office jerks who think they're funny but never are. As for Nelson there was always something phony and unlikeable about him kind of like he was the Eddie Haskell of the Sci Fi Channel. Plus he's distinguishable from the childish puppets he plays second-fiddle to only because he actually shows fewer facial expressions than they do. (Another helpful hint: Nelson is the tall one!)
For a show that could have been called "Kukla Fran and Ollie and The Movies" this pompous pretentious little-puppet-show-that-couldn't (Oh, excuse me they're not puppets they're "bots"<snicker>)was only funny UN-intentionally like with the embarrassing high-brow airs it tried to put on with those self-congratulatory "look how deep we are" remarks. Yes, Mike and Mary Jo, we all understand the references you're throwing out, now could you try actually being funny? After all, is there anybody out there so lacking in self-esteem they need to puff themselves up by saying "Aha! That half-baked ventriloquist's dummy just made a reference to Shakespeare!" And like stories about the fish that got away we're endlessly told this show was sooooo much better and made sooooo many more episodes when it was on Comedy Central before moving to the Sci Fi Channel. Conveniently nobody ever shows the Comedy Central shows any more so I'm dubious that this thing was ever any better than what I saw of it on Sci Fi. At this point it's beating a dead horse to point out how horrible the sketches on this show were. If these talentless dweebs even entertained their own mothers with those idiotic sketches of theirs I'd be amazed. Obviously I agree with all the other negative reviews about this over-praised over-hyped piece of junk."
Sheesh, all these reviews are starting to sound the same now.

NEGATIVE MST3K Reviews = "I Hate Mike Nelson". .....And who the heck is Rupert Pupkins? That's Robert DeNiro's character from Martin Scorsese's grossly underrated THE KING OF COMEDY. He plays a below-average stand-up comic who thinks he's really funny and gets upset that The Tonight Show won't book him. He basically turns into a stalker, following the host of the show (Jerry Lewis, who's great in this) all over the place, and then finally kidnapping him and agreeing to let him go only if he gets a chance to perform on the show, live. It's an awesome movie....you should see it. Here's a trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wVhCCo02P4While the movie has some laughs, it's actually pretty dark and even disturbing. . .reminiscent of Scorsese's AFTER HOURS. As far as Mike as Rupert Pupkin, I guess the author feels Mike thinks he's far funnier than he is. As in "when the guy who thinks he's a hoot makes a TV show." This is an incorrect evaluation, and the author is a moron.

I think the main problem is you're looking at IMDB, a troll's heaven. The forums on that place do my box in. The only place more annoying is the Youtube comments section under any video.
