U2's cover of Darlene Love's "Christmas, Baby Please Come Home" blew dead dogs on the Burma road.

You Can't Hurry Love, covered by Phil Collins Drift Away, covered by Uncle Kracker Cruisin, covered by Huey Lewis and Gwyneth Paltrow (I know, right? I think it was for a movie) There's also a really cutesy version of Maybe I'm Amazed out there. A very girly voice sings it while what sounds like a toy piano plays behind her. Ew.

I actually like Avril but didn't care for her "Imagine" because she didn't bring anything new to the song so it was more of a, "So what's the point" deal with me. (If your gonna record a cover, bring something of yourself -ala Sonic Youth doing the Carpenters)
Though it was popular, I didn't care for Elton John's "Lucy In The Sky...", he turned a spacey psychedelic classic into a Broadway show tune.
I think we have a best covers thread out there but to end on a positive note, one of my fav covers was Gary Jules doing Tears for Fears "Mad World" and improving on the original.

That's funny, because I also really love a cover of "Mad World" that the Red Paintings did. It was a great song to begin with, but the Red Paintings kind of made it this really harrowing, emotional experience, complete with violin.

I went and listened to it, and thought it was outstanding... except the singers twangy voice cut back the emotional impact for me a bit. I agree that the musical arragment was great.

I heard this on the radio a long, long time ago and it was so bad I never forgot it. Acoustic guitar AC/DC cover songs by female singers. There's a AC/DC female tribute band that kick's ass, but this album is full of sweet voiced Lilith Fair type vocalists and it doesn't work. www.amazon.com/Backed-Black-Ac-Dc-Tribute/dp/B00006C2QLListen to the cover of, "Giving the Dog a Bone" and you will hear just how wrong it all is. It's just bad. "she take you down easy going down to her knees going down to the devil down down at ninety degrees she blowing me crazy 'til my ammunition is dry she's using her head again she's using her head she's using her head again I'm justa giving the dog a bone giving the dog a bone, giving the dog a bone giving the dog a bone, giving the dog a bone"
