And again, we're playing the same way we did the LAST time we fired Paul Maurice - we seemed to be doing everything right, but couldn't score to save our lives, and couldn't prevent less than 3 goals on hardly any given night.
As everyone knows, whatever else you do right doesn't mean squat unless you can both a) score, and b) prevent scoring.

I feel for you Hurricanes fans. I guess if there's any somewhat upside to this, its that at least this is happening at the beginning of the season and not the end.

The Canes have done it! We are officially 30th in a league with 30 teams. That was accomplished by losing to Toronto last night, giving the Leafs their second win in fourteen games this season.
Oh, the fun continues...

I don't know if this is sad or not, but I've already become adjusted to this, and now EXPECT us to stay 30th in the league. If we don't get Taylor Hall out of all this (OR make the playoffs miraculously), I will have considered it an unsuccessful season. If you're gonna stink, do it for a good reason, I say.

The Pens lost another major player to injury last night. Guess we're making up for our good luck at the end of last season...

Detroit is playing better lately. I still don't know how good or bad they are, though.

Canes win! Canes win! Looks like we won't lose every game. Hooray!! And, of all things, IN A SHOOTOUT! Maybe for future games we should just have Ward do the regulation and overtime (once he gets back of course), and have Leighton come in for the shootouts. Oh yeah, and as long as shootouts are a part of hockey, DO NOT get rid of Jussi Jokinen, Hurricanes. That is all. Vote Staal/Hall 2010.

So... what's going on in the NHL?

Ugh. The Chicago Tribune has all but decreed the Blackhawks will win the Stanley Cup. Love their optimism, but it's only December....there is a LOT of hockey left to play. But I guess when the Bears and Bulls stink, and spring training hasn't started yet, this is what they do in Chicago.
As for the Red Wings, I think this will be a rebuilding year. They've been adequate at best this year, and guys like Nik Lidstrom aren't getting any younger. I was a little surpised that they let Hossa go as a free agent, but then they probably knew he needed surgery on that shoulder. Oh well, there is always next year.

Yep, there's always next year.
Rod Brind'Amour was even a healthy scratch last game. I'm still watching the Canes as much as I can stand this season. But it hurts.

Red Wings just blew a 2 goal lead in the last 2 minutes and lost in OT.

Red Wings just blew a 2 goal lead in the last 2 minutes and lost in OT. Welcome to my world. Except we would have lost in regulation.

Dare I hope for my Canes to sneak into the playoffs?
Granted it's a long shot but they are 7 points out of the 8th spot with 19 games to go. They've won 7 in a row and 11 of their last 13.

Season ended today for Carolina. They lost to the Bruins thanks to three short handed goals against in a one minute and sixteen second span. Boston's three shorties gave them seven for the season. Lets see... 4 in 81 games. Then three in less than two minutes.
Canes ended up going 31-20 in their last 51 games. But that huge losing streak early on proved too much to overcome. They did ship out most of their old, high-priced talent and brought in some really exciting young players. I hope the momentum carries into next season.
Oh, we got next season's all-star game too. I'd love to get a ticket but I doubt I'm willing to pay the freight.
