And how can I get a full-length recording done without too many mistakes? I haven't tried this yet, but there are two ways I can think of that would be pretty straightforward with Audacity. The first would be to just record a full-length temp track without stopping, then record new riffs where you made mistakes. You'd just mute the mistakes and record the new riffs on another track, and then you could mix them down to one track occasionally to keep things less complicated. The second way would be to record it in segments (e.g. DVD track lengths), then mix in each segment in order. This one would probably be trickier to adjust the timing correctly, but it still seems doable. I'm sure there are other ways to go about it, but those popped into mind for me.

All right, I've recruited a cowriter and we've decided to try out riffing "Crank". It's Stathamy goodness!

Go get 'em, Raja! And pass the rolls... I appreciate the sentiment, Sky. ;D And by "rolls" you mean your check, right? Or did you mean your drink refill? Surely you aren't be referring to those baked round things glazed in butter, are you? ****** I forgot to mention earlier how excited I am to actually PURCHASE some iRiffs too. Hee hee. Particularly the Riff Raff theater ones, since I had a hand in some of them too, and they always do a great job. Plus, all the other emerging riffers coming out of the woodwork - imagine all the movies we'll see riffed, and all the different styles of humor!

I hope there will be a lot of different styles of humor; much as I love MST3K, Rifftrax, and CT, it would be nice to different and more personalizewd styles emerging. If standup comedy can accomodate Bill Hicks, Stephen Wright, Rita Rudner, Mitch hedburg, and so on and so on, surely there's room for a lot of different ways to riff a movie as well.
You know what would be especially nice? A whole wave of new female riffers. Mary Jo is great, but for the most part riffing seems to be an almost entirely male sport so far.

Comedy in general seems to be a male dominated thing. I mean, sure there are some hilarious female comics out there, but they're few and far between it seems. I'd definitely like to see more ladies get in on this.

^Thirded.
Not only that, but I think it'd be pretty interesting to see (or hear?) some riffs from other ethnicities and nationalities - so far the only foreign one I've even heard of is Matthew Eliott!
I guess Chad Vader counts too, being from Tatooine and all. ;D But you know what I mean.

Well as I said I'd like to give it a go. I managed to talk some friends into maybe attempting Leprechaun as it was a classic from the days when we got plastered and ripped apart bad horror films round my house when we were about 16. Our attempt might not end up tightly scriptedor particularly intelligent though as alcohol would maybe be involved! But trust me, if you can cut through the accent and the localised references the Scottish sense of humour is the finest in the world!

I'm definitely on this. I was, quite literally, about to record a short and send it in to Rifftrax along with my resume, when I got the email about iRiffs. I'm gonna get some of my comedian friends involved so we can have something up for the October launch.
I've done improvised riffs (on the infamous "Turkish Star Wars" and some Buck Rogers episodes) for audiences before, but this will give me an excuse to actually write.

I've had a lot of fun writing riff scripts this summer. I'm getting ready to take on Armageddon for the Riff Raff gang, and I'm always looking for new projects. If anyone out there needs an extra writer for a project, drop me a PM.

Just an FYI to those who don't visit the Rifftrax board:
I've just posted a sample of my Halloween 2 riff on YouTube. Please check it out and let me know what you think:

Hey, speaking up over here to mention my own iRiffing projects. I've already finished work on Star Trek The Motion Picture, which should go online November 5th. Work is commencing on The Last Unicorn, Nightmare on Elm Street 3 (parts one and two are available as free riffs though my geocities site) and Masters of the Universe starring Dolph Lundgren. Also, Masters of the Universe is an open collaboration riff, similar to Riff Raff Theater. If anyone wants to try their hands at writing some jokes for it, you can send in a script to me. Anyone who gets jokes into the final cut gets the riff for free and there will be other prizes up for grabs as well. PM, email, or take a peek here at the Rifftrax board for more details. And here's a little sample from Star Trek, featuring me and my friend "DraCCu" Written by myself and Shane Tourtellotte.

Also, advice for people who might want to do this a lot, and thus be willing to invest some money in their own projects.
Audacity will work, but it can get very difficult to edit properly, and doing so will involve a lot of time consuming trial and error to get the timing right. There are audio programs that will let you import the movie's video after some conversion, but they can get pricey. I've been using Adobe Audition for editing my last couple riffs and will be using it for recording in the future. It's been a gigantic time saver and let me keep a lot more focus on the performance than the timing.
