Should MSTies review MSTed movies without seeing the uncut film? Opinions? Anyone? Are we watching the movie or is it "Monkey See, Monkey Do" it's automaticly bad if it's on this show?
I think MSTies should review. As long as it's more than just "This movie sucks but made a great episode of MST3K!" It's just like seeing an edited movie on TV and many people judge films that they've seen only on TV. There just happens to be guys at the bottom of the screen tearing it to peaces.

I personally think that people should watch the uncut version before reviewing. Yes, even Manos.

Completely unnecessary. Were talking about reviewing a TV show, not a movie. It might have some merit but not required.

I completely agree with phantomengineer. It doesn't take an uncut version of most of these movies to be able to tell how horrible they are. Still, people need to use actual judgment, and not blindly vote a "1" based solely on the fact that a movie appeared on the show.

Well, my argument for watching the uncut movie first is that often BBI had to edit the movies, and this could make them better or worse. Remember what they say was in the uncut version of Boggy Creek II? If they had left it in, I'd probably vote a 1, 2, or 3. As it is, with the editted version I'd probably vote with a 6 as it certainly wasn't as bad as a lot of the trash out there.
There are also times when BBI actually tampered with the story a bit when it was necessary. In Sidehackers they had to cut the scene where that one girl was killed. I remember the first time I watched it I was just so confused about what was happening until Crow said, "For those of you playing along at home, <what'shername/> is dead."
You just won't get the same flavor in some cases. I will admit that it probably won't always be necessary if a person is willing to just tune out the running commentary, but once in a while a person should give the uncut version a chance.
I'll end this post by saying that the uncut version of Radar Men From The Moon rocks.

I understand what you're saying, but it's too hard to get a hold of an uncut version of any given MST3K movie, and theres not really any motivation for doing so. I think 90% of the time, a viewer can make an accurate judgment based on the MST3K viewing of a movie. Besides, it's fun to hand out "1" votes to horrible movies that deserve it. Why make a moral issue out of it?

Because I like playing devil's advocate. That's about what it comes down to really.

Ah. Yes, well. Hmm. I guess that argument is done?

NO! The argument is SO not done! AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!
Gee, there I go again. Sorry.
Really, though, I recommend watching some of the movies w/out commentary. In general this is only a good idea if the movie looks good with the guys making fun of it, but you'd be surprised some of the neat stuff that happens in these films.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. I'd like to see the uncut version of King Dinosaur.
I've always thought it would be fun to get a whole bunch of copies of the un-Mstied Santa Claus and hand them out to extended family members I don't like.

G'ah! Okay, I'm all for enjoying the raw versions, but that's just cruel!

I don't have much of a holiday spirit I suppose. I also think it would be fun to hand out ketchup packets for Halloween.
Seriously though, I might end up getting a copy of Santa Claus for my grandparents as a gag gift. See if they actually gather everyone around to watch it.....

It's interesting to find really bad movies and force people to watch them a la Dr. Forrester. I tinkered with that when I was just starting thsi mad science gig, and it was hilarious.
I'll never forget the guy who started playing with a lighter just to take his mind off of the film.

I was at a library a couple months ago and accidently found an uncut copy of Marooned (Space Travelers). I almost didn't make it, it was so boring.
And I have yet to see the episode.

Yeah, you should be able to vote for the movies that you saw for this show, unless the movie was heavily cut (more than 20 minutes, or two signifcant scenes missing) either way, the vote for people who saw the MST3K'd version should be weighed differently than those who saw the full uncut version.
