Be prepared for a big fresh slice of..................70s bland.
Stranded in Space
I'm a fan of the TV movie. Especially the long form pilot, it gave us a wonderful introduction to the world of Twin Peaks, and on the other side, it gives us a nice sleep aid in Stranded In Space.
I like the idea of this show on paper. Alternate universe that we'd never logically see, but oh ho ho! look how similar it really is, not a bad sci-fi/satire concept. Execution-wise, I can't even really say it failed either. I know who the main character is, why they're after him, the problem with the world that he's in (what he could be there to save) love interest (if his goal is leaving the planet, not the most practical plot point, but maybe he'll stay after he destroys the government........okay, putting too much thought into a show that didn't make it) and help along the way (potential supporting cast).
But i guess the budget went into the writing and not the equipment, since everything came out in such a brown and maroon feel and in addition to all the characters sounding like the adults in Peanuts (thank you sound budget) I was not able to understand most of the story, the details that can make one cherish a piece of pop culture.
Riffing was good, no big laughs but a lot of appreciating chuckles and references (most of which i didn't get) but it's the kind of episode that I love to watch when I'm sick. Host segments.......I liked the discussion of Ward E, was in the great vein of their deconstruction of plot elements of the movies they watched, so I'll go with that being my favorite.
Fav Riff: Nelson "<whisper> MIKE nelson." Servo. Not that it made me laugh especially hard, but at that point his name could still qualify as an obscure reference to the show.
