There is an awesome Easter Egg on the Extras menu of The Beatniks. Highlight the word "Extras." I'm not gonna spoil what it is, aside from the fact that it is wonderful NO! Why did I have to read about while I'm at work? Now I have to wait all day to find out what it is.

I will say that it is a great Easter Egg Thanks for posting that I watched The Beatniks on Wednesday night sans the Easter Egg, so last night I popped the dvd back in and watched that.

There's a guy on livejournal claiming that the Crawling Eye DVD is missing some sound FX and the "Movie Sign". My copy hasn't shipped yet, so I can't see it for myself. Can anyone who has their copy confirm/deny this? Thanks... community.livejournal.com/mst3k/2945876.html

I got mine in the mail yesterday, but my viewing isn't going down till tonight. I hope that is an isolated incident... I will report any findings after my viewing.

It's the first episode. There is no lights and sound and button for Joel to slap during movie sign - the camera just jiggles a little.

I guess I misunderstood what johnnyryde was saying, because after I watched it, I realized that the reason they are missing is because they weren't there in the first place. Its been a while since I've seen "The Crawling Eye," but I'm glad there's no Rhino-level flaw on this DVD. Phew!

There is no lights and sound and button for Joel to slap during movie sign - the camera just jiggles a little. Joel mentions and explains this in the introduction. Not a flaw.

My copy just arrived this morning, so I decided to check The Crawling Eye's host segment before the movie against my copy from the DAP.
The Shout Factory version is missing sound effects - when Dr. Forrester loads the experiment, a sinister organ music cue plays, and the "Movie Sign" alarm sounds in the broadcast version. Both of these sound cues are missing from the Shout Factory version.
*EDIT* Having now watched Joel's intro and hearing him talk about how rushed they were to get the episode in and how they couldn't finish everything in time, I'm wondering if maybe this is how the episode aired the first time, and they added the sound effects for later rebroadcasts (which is why they aren't on the master). In any event, it's a pretty odd exclusion.

If I remember right, Satellite News' episode guide mentions the "movie sign" being lifeless.

If I remember right, Satellite News' episode guide mentions the "movie sign" being lifeless. But it does mention that the buzzer does sound, which is missing from the Shout Factory release: www.mst3kinfo.com/episodes/epone.html

The Crawling Eye is indeed missing the sound effects at the beginning, but I'm going to chalk it up to the tape being from the original broadcast. Its also missing the movie sign buzzer from the mid-episode host segment and the sound Dr. Forrester's button makes at the end of the episode.
Also as mentioned by many, there are some sound hiccups 26 minutes into The Final Sacrifice.

Another missing sound effect is the remote control that Dr. F is using when the opening starts.
I just viewed the Easter Egg. Glad I don't need to go on YouTube to see that.
The opening is still cut off, so I guess the full version of that sequence doesn't exist in any vdeo format. Nuts.

Just watched Dr. Z today, and took a look at the extras on Beatniks and Final Sacrifice. Awesome easter egg!
