I thought it was pretty good. Some laugh out loud moments. I liked the MST references. Some mistakes that weren't corrected due to the live presentation. But I'm not real sold on the live format.

The DVD is in widescreen format with the movie in 4:3 aspect ratio in the center with the live titans on each side to fill out the 16:9 overall aspect ratio. Thanks for clarifying that.

Posted my review at the website East Meets WattsIn short: I thought it was a lot of fun, stronger during the first half. It slows a bit in the second. I saw this live and it was just as good on DVD. The audience added to my enjoyment. I wouldn’t mind if they went this rout exclusively. Oh, and loved my postcard!

Man, I loved it. The audience bothered me a little, but even with that minor distraction I LOVED it. The movie is a big part of why, I think -- it was perfect. I keep wishing MST had done a bunch of those '70s kung fu movies.

Just got a great Xmas present from the Titans - my EmW DVD arrived this morning! Yay! Ordered on the 16th, and didn't expect to receive it til after the holidays - I'm in the UK. Dang, this waiting thing is hard! Mucho thanks to all the guys & gals at CT! And have a Merry Christmas, won't you?

Just finished watching my DVD of it, LOVED IT. I like how they set up/framed the movie in relation to the cast on stage. I saw DYNAMITE BROTHERS live in Feb, and this was just as good (though a few riffs were different from when I saw it). I still prefer studio DVDs, but the live performances do add another dimension of fun at times.
The movie was so perfect for riffing, easily one of CT's best yet!

I agree with MJ. EMW was great for the first 45 minutes, and pretty good the rest of the way. I did find the audience annoying at times, but they also made certain riffs even funnier with their reaction. Most of the time I didn't even notice them.
But the live setting did produce a much better performance from the Titans than any of their other DVD's. There was very little hint of it being a commentary track of 5 people reading a script. I don't know if the riffs themselves was any better than Legacy of Blood or Blood of the Vampires, but the whole package was significantly funnier. The movie also played a part in that two, as it' was grade A riffing material.
Josh was the star IMO. The Pizza Hut and erosion riffs were the standout riffs I remember after one viewing, but the biggest laughs were when one of the bad guys sat down behind his desk, and the way the crowd and Mary Jo reacted to it.
Overall, this one's my new favorite CT release.

This was a Christmas present from my wife. I really liked it. I saw this live in Cleveland last February and must say they were much sharper then. Not nearly as many flubbed lines and the riffs they updated were not as good. Another nit pick If you are doing a live DVD why not have some behind the scenes extras or at least some of the terrific non movie live moments? But overall this is a terrific movie to riff. I think I would prefer studio versions of the movies. However, there are some great moments that you just couldn't translate any other way.

Well, here we go... I too, like gargonshepard, got the CT Live version of East Meets Watts from my wife for Christmas, much to my surprise. For those of you paying attention to my previous rants and comments, you'll know that I have adamantly apposed CT producing exclusively Live DVDs. I watched the 5 minute clip, and despite the hilarious riffs, I hated the audience reaction, exactly as I knew I would.
Well, I watched the DVD last night, and my opinion has changed ever so slight. I found after about 5 minutes (oddly enough) of viewing, the audience becomes white noise and less noticeable, with the exception of a few annoying times that someone in the live audience finds something much funnier than you. Regardless of the audience, I was absolutely rolling with laughter. The first 40 minutes of this DVD are worth the price of admission alone, some of the most consistent riffing ever, and clearly the best CT has had to offer to this point. This is easily my favorite episode of the 8 DVDs they've released. Many people have said that the audience was the magic behind East Meets Watts, but I have to say, I just think the Titans have really found their rhythm with this project, and the riff writing was just superb!
Aside from the sometimes annoying audience, I think the audio mix was pretty amazing considering how many different elements there are... I take no issue with the visuals, in fact, I think this is the perfect solution for the live DVD. Getting to see the looks on the Titan's faces was really fun... Loved the spit-take! I've seen them live, and this DVD does a really great job capturing the feel of the live event... much cheaper as well. I paid $80 for me and my wife to see them in Atlanta! Not something I can do more than once a year.
That being said, I have come to learn that I don't hate the live versions, and that I'm not going to boycott CT if they do stick with just the live versions... but I'd be ecstatic it if they could maybe alternate between studio and live DVDs in order to make everyone happy (including me). I love the studio releases and I would like to see the story arc continue. In conclusion, if you hated the idea of the live version, like I did (I mean, I was ready to riot in the streets, my friend), please give this DVD a chance. The format (mostly the audience) has its flaws, but the riffing and the movie are an absolute blast!

A story line was created about how the Titans found themselves in the situation and it would be a shame to see that totally abandoned.

A story line was created about how the Titans found themselves in the situation and it would be a shame to see that totally abandoned. I'm not sure a shame for CT, though. If you've been following them from the beginning, it seems fairly likely that the story-line was added solely at the behest of fan request. The Live touring and now Live DVD release only add to this view.

I just got the DVD in the mail. My biggest concern wasn't the loss of the "story arc' (since there really isn't one anyway), but the sound. I was worried I'd have a hard time hearing both the movie and the riffs over the sound of the audience. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. The sound quality is surprisingly good. The way it's presented, with cameras looking almost directly at each group of Titans and the movie brought forward so it can be seen clearly really works well for the visuals.
The riffing was brilliant. Six and a half minutes into the movie, I had already decided this was the funniest CT release yet. Yeah, there were a couple of flubbed lines, but the way they embraced the mistakes made it funny in it's own way. But that's the beauty of a live performance. For some reason, Frank really shined as a riffer. It makes me think Frank must be at his best with a live audience.
My only complaint with the DVD is that at the end of any of the trailers, my Pioneer DV-444 goes to a blank screen instead of returning to the menu.

i watched it twice yesterday, after getting it in the mail thursday and LOVED it. like everyone else has pointed out, the audience didn't bother me. my only complaint was the size of the screen - i wish it had been just a little bit bigger, but even that isn't enough to really complain about. the riffing was excellent - all of them were so funny and it was great seeing them enjoying each other's riffs. like calli said, i can't believe MST didn't jump on these movies when they had the chance.
my three favorite parts - the totally lame jump and roll stud and larry did from the pick up truck after fighting the rednecks, that giant of a guy looking tiny sitting at his desk, and joel's, "daaamn right," riff in the first scene. i don't know why, but that just cracks me up every time i think about it.
