If there's one thing an author should NEVER do, it's respond to a negative amazon.com review. This is why.

Wow. That's one of the best reads I've had in a long time!
What actually impressed me was the almost consistently polite response of the other commentators to the author's increasingly over-the-top responses.

Wow, seeing things like that really help me appreciate this board. The author really took off when she brought in the FBI. She first claimed somebody threatened her but later went on to use the FBI angle to scare everyone posting in the review thread with the knowledge that they'd better mind themselves, the FBI IS WATCHING YOU.
Okay folks...enough name-tossing and accusations have been tossed around on all sides and now it's darn serious. You came over here to voice your opinions; willingness on the part of some to go to extremes has enabled a possible situation.
A post was sent that involved a threat. When I was made aware the facts and what happened and how the law reads, I told Amazon.com about the matter - I was on the phone with them very early this morning. They've been sent an email bearing a copy of the message in question. An investigative agency in charge of cyber stalking was also contacted...not by Amazon but by me! They also have a copy of the message. I'm told that a felony 'might' have been committed. If that was the case I WILL file charges against the person who made that threat, as a witness to it.
You may continue posting as you please but I can assure you...posts are going to be scrutinized; whether anyone likes it or not. I say this to you so that you may continue with full disclosure.
Then later: Okay guys...I've just downloaded all the comments made on this site as per the FBI's instructions...I don't care if you believe it or not. The threat wasn't made on this site...please read what I wrote...it was sent elsewhere. And I don't care if you believe that, either.
As bizarre and creepily entertaining as it was, for me the best part was when the author abandoned the thread around page 20, and how the dinks/trolls weren't willing to let it go. How badly the poor little troll-dinks wanted her back! The posts kind of peter out for a while, then someone says, "Where'd she go?" then they start turning on each other.

I've actually now seen this linked to from 3 different blogs. I think part of the reason she disappeared was that she realized she'd suddenly made minor internet fame in a way that could likely really damage her writing career.

I wonder how many books it's selling for her?
*As of today her book is #679,084 in Amazon rank. I wonder if it'll go up. I also wonder where it was before all this started.

I remember someone in there actually saying that it had gone down in sales since she first posted her complaint.

Internet chain reaction at it's best.
That was awsome.

Her Amazon biography says she was a cop. Why does that not surprise me?

Her Amazon biography says she was a cop. Why does that not surprise me? And a couple of other people called her on it, with regards to the statutes covering internet crime. A nicely passive-agressive comment from another writer offering to give her connections to people who write in the "cop" genre was hysterical. I've seen it discussed on two other boards now. It got hauled over to Twitter too. She'll either sell a pile of this first book off the publicity or have to switch genres/grab a pseudonym. At least I hope she got ripped or dumped by her publisher.

Apparently the author decided to try and stop the bleeding -- she deleted all her posts in the thread.
I posted on December 17th that her book was ranked #679,084 in book sales. As of right now it has climbed 121,743 spots and is ranked #557,341. Another excellent example that there is no bad press.

Wow...I was kind of late to this one. Does anyone know if this was preserved anywhere? (The author has deleted all of her posts.)

"Only 3 left in stock." I wonder how mad her publisher really is.
*December 30th edit: It's now ranked #273,953 in Amazon sales. Since December 17th it has climbed over four hundred thousand spots in Amazon sales rankings.
