For once a big storm predicted here actually came through. And now I'm stuck at the hotel I work at all weekend. But I came prepared with lots of MST3K DVD's. So it could be worse.

i thought my snow lust might be sated over the weekend - we were due to get in on that big snowstorm that hit the northeast. they were calling for as much as a foot of snow around where i live, so i was pretty excited about it. but we got only four inches - which i know i shouldn't complain since we did get some snow, but i wanted the Big Daddy snow. my sister, who lives in maryland, said they were supposed to get two inches and they ended up with a foot. they totally usurped our snow!

Winter in Florida during January and February is a sometime thing. One day you are in shirt sleeves. The next you're freezing after a front comes through. A lot of people get sick this time of year because the temperature can't make up its mind and varies 20 to 30 degrees overnight and often. The freezes are usually over by the end of February, but you never know. Layering is the way to go down here.

Yeah, Florida winters are bizarro. This past December my friend came to visit and we took her to see St. Augustine and it was freaking ROASTING that day, so much so that she wanted to go home early because she couldn't take the heat anymore! But then a few days later it was like 29 degrees and all the fruit trees were curling up and turning brown. And then a couple days after that it was like a monsoon, warm and pouring down rain. Crazy, man.

We got about 2" of snow/sleet accumulation. I woke up Saturday morning, and noticed the light coming through the window was exceedingly white-ish! I scampered up the stairs and walked outside, and threw a snowball for the first time since, I don't know...1992?

A few weeks ago we had freezing rain that knocked out power in some areas around here for eight hours. But that's nothing, there are places elsewhere in the state that have been out for more than a week. They're still replacing lines and poles. Got another two inches of snow or so last night, but no wind, so no drifting, thank god.
I've spent a couple of Christmases and New Year's in Vero Beach, Florida. For a northern guy it was quite an experience. The weather was always pretty nice, from what I remember. Of course, all weather is relative and a native Floridian may have had a different opinion. Still, Christmas decorations on houses with green lawns out front still doesn't compute in my brain. The lawn should either be covered with white or just plain brown.
