Ordinarily I would never go to the TMZ website or in any way endorse TMZ (I agree with J. Elvis Weinstein who, when hearing about TMZ Sports tweeted, "I can't believe what they're doing can be spread any thinner.") However, I was tricked into their website by a tiny URL on Twitter and saw this. So, the jerks at NBC are sending Leno back to his old timeslot. Which is good news for Leno, yes, but it looks like O'Brian is gonna be left high and dry. Now, I confess I don't really watch late night NBC, but still. Not cool, NBC. Not cool.

And the world gets a little more mediocre.
Doesn't change the fact that Craig Ferguson is the king of late night.

When I do catch any Late Night stuff, I also prefer Craig Ferguson. He (seems) much more off-the-cuff, freer to say things about whatever.

Wow. That's low, even for NBC. Conan does not deserve this.
This network has no idea what it's doing.

This is lame, though I don't think this would ever have happened if Conan didn't let his show become so damn boring. His show used to be insane now it's just another talk show.
And to be honest not a very good one.

Wow, they made a whole big hoopla about Conan becomming the new host of the Tonight Show....he's barely been there a year and already he's out apparently.

None of this would be happening if NBC hadn't decided to move Leno in the first place.

But they moved Leno to keep Conan from splitting and going to somewhere like Fox, right? They tried to have their cake and eat it too. Now their cake sucks! Nobody wants it!

It was a bad move on NBC's part for removing Jay Leno in the first place. They should have just waited until he was ready to go on his own. They put the shaft to Jay, and now Conan. It's one huge mess.
From what I've heard they wanted to bring in Conan so they could get ratings from a younger audience - but whatever happened to the old saying If It's Not Broken, Don't Fix It? I'm sure there are probably other reasons. So far that is the only one I've heard though.
The timing would have been better [Leno actually retiring from the show rather than being booted out], and Conan would have been held a better spotlight when taking over similar to Jay Leno when Carson handed it over to him.
I've been a Jay Leno fan for a years now, growing up watching him and sometimes staying awake to watch Conan afterwards when I could. I've been supporting Jay since this first began 6 years ago, however with that said I must salute Conan for his statement today, and I'm glad he's putting his foot down on NBC's idea to move him to 12:05am and bump Jay back to 11:35pm.
And I agree Craig Ferguson is awesome.

At this moment Jimmy Kimmel is tearing Leno apart.
This is the funniest thing I've seen on tv in a long time.

Didn't Jay Leno announce he was leaving in 2004? If that was a problem, if he was being pushed out, he should have refused to step aside 6 years ago--not suddenly last Fall after O'Brien's contract was already signed. I agree that NBC is to blame here (what else is new), but Leno missed his chance to protest and he needs to step down. With a better lead-in at 9/10 pm, O'Brien's ratings will likely go up as well. And he's already tied with Letterman in the 18-49 demographic--in just 7 months! That's the prized demographic (whether or not it factually should be).
That having been said, where one falls on this debate has everything to do with who you're a fan of. I'm a O'Brien fan. I admit it.
Really, this is symptomatic of the overall problems with network TV anyway, and NBC in particular. Too fickle; too quick to jump the gun. Critics were saying the same thing about NBC 10 years ago: "No faith in their own judgment." True, affiliate pressure does mean they have to do something about Leno, but there are other things they could do. Put Leno on weekly. Put him on as a daytime show. I like the former solution myself; they could even give him an hour and a half--once a week he might be a welcome change from cop and hospital dramas and get higher ratings.
And don't get me started about the atrocity that is the "ratings."
No winners here, really. The whole thing is just too bad.
And Craig Ferguson rocks.

Jay Leno when Carson handed it over to him. Actually, IIRC, Carson wanted to hand the show over to Letterman and NBC refused to comply. I remember hearing, shortly before he passed away, that Carson was still writing some jokes for Letterman's monologue.
