Is there a single source that says that Sandy Frank didn't like MST3K? Because I've never seen one. All I've ever read is here-say. The reason I question this is because before I ever heard any of those Sandy Frank hate stories, I assumed that he hated to show. Which leads me to believe that others generated these rumors, and because it seems so plausible, we automatically believed it was true. Plus the fact that for years we all believed Peter Graves loved the show and those rumors have since been disproven. Prove me wrong, but I honestly don't think he hated the show.

Kevin Murphy said years ago, that Sandy Frank wasn't upset, it's just he wanted a lot of money for the films' rights to be renewed for MST3K. And, then he lost the rights anyway and they went back to whatever company owns Gamera (I know it's not Toho).

If I were Sandy Frank, I'd be angry about my stupid name & "Twilight Zone Airplane Gremlin Creature" face! Bleh! What an ugly old man!

The only Sandy Frank thing worth watching is "Battle Of The Planets" (though it's considerd a bastardization by anime purists. But I'll always regard it with fondness).

I think most MSTies assumed Sandy Frank hated the show because he got ripped on so much. Let's face it, if someone sang songs about you with lines like "Sandy Frank, Sandy Frank likes to crap in his hand" you probably wouldn't be too endeared with them.

The ungrateful bastard should be flattered. MST3K was the only way anyone wanted to see those films.

We don't know that he's ungreatful, yet we assume he is. It's not fair. It's as if I just started bashing Reb Brown just because he's never commented on MST. For all we know Sandy Frank has never even seen MST. Yet appearently he's the spawn of satan.

True, heck...he could be a decent guy, in fact, if it weren't for him, we probably would never know much of Japanese Cinema (other than Godzilla)...albeit really crummy Japanese cinema....at least be grateful for Battle Of The Planets on 70's-80's Saturday Morning TV. True, he mangeled & eviscerated a lot of stuff but it's still fun to watch in a weird Ed Wood-esque sorta way. Perhaps we shouldn't judge too harshly. Much of the derision is clearly good natured ribbing.....but he still looks like the Twilight Zone Airplane creature.

I've always personally felt that Sandy Frank's attitude was "Well, I don't care for the insults, but you did make my movies more profitable, so...if you pay this much more, it'll all be good."
I mean, it kinda comes with the show-biz meta game. If you get famous for something that's got even a tiny problem with it, you're gonna be made fun of. Kinda like how I feel about Adam West. I always enjoyed his Batman even if I don't care for that treatment of the character, but you can't deny that lots of the stuff in that show was repetitive, weird, or both.
So he probably has a mild dislike for the show, but apart from that I doubt he truly bears it any ill will. He just wants people to pay him money for the work he did (and really, that's the premise behind most people's reason for doing work, so I can't blame him for that.)

I don't know how offended I could be by a guy in a jumpsuit and two puppet robots singing goofy songs about me...

I think your probably close to right on that one. How can anyone survive in Hollywood who has a thin skin? He must have heard a lot worse in all the years he's been there. What's the old saying, There's no such thing as bad publicity. How many millionaires are laughed at? Who was it who said, I'll laugh my way all the way to the bank?
