I'm sure I already know the answer to this, and not that it matters, but I think it would be good to get some actual numbers on this issue. I was going to throw in the option of "A mix of both LIVE and studio," but I figured that would be a cop out.

Being completely honest, originally I preferred the studio versions of the movies. But I have to admit that I really enjoyed the Live version of "East Meets Watts", to be honest. The laughter didn't detract at all from the riffing. I think that the live DVD got pretty good reviews from critics as well from the e-mail that CT sent.

Well, that's why I am curious how people would vote. I mean, I was mad as hell when I originally learned that "East Meets Watts" was going to be a LIVE recording, and even after seeing the 5 minute promo, I was mad. My wife got it for me for Christmas, and I watched it and loved it... but I don't think the LIVE aspect made it better, I just think the movie was perfect and their writing for that installment was incredible. I would like to see them go back to the studio DVDs, but that's probably not going to happen according to the wikipedia entry that was pointed out to me by Melting Man.

If given a choice only between "studio" and "live" I'm voting studio. But I would have picked "mix" if you offered it.

Personally, I don't plan on buying any dvds until they return to the studio format. I really didn't like what I saw during that live promo clip.

I think I prefer the studio, but like most of us I'll take it either way over nothing.

I think I prefer the studio, but like most of us I'll take it either way over nothing. I agree... I mean, I strongly prefer the studio releases, but I think if they alternated studio, live, studio, then everyone would be happy... Personally, I don't plan on buying any dvds until they return to the studio format. I really didn't like what I saw during that live promo clip. I felt the same way, Melting Man, but honestly East Meets Watts is such an unbelievably funny installment to the series. But, I don't blame you. I wasn't going to buy any of the LIVE releases, just so sales would reflect that the fans preferred studio releases... but boycotting them all together may result in CT going away. If the LIVE version was absolutely terrible, CT's demise would have been fine with me, but that just wasn't the case. I mean, despite the sometimes distracting audience, it was easily the funniest CT release to date.

From the Cinematic Titanic wikipedia, as pointed out to me by Melting Man: If I had to bet, it doesn't look good for studio DVDs.

Well, Josh did say that the studio dvds would return at some point.
On the one hand, if the live versions sell just as well and cost less to make, it wouldn't shock me if they went all live all the time.
On the other hand, I suspect that they'll double dip and revisit the live shows and release studio versions with some advertised new jokes (which is another reason I'd rather not spend the money on live dvds).
I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but, even if they do release studio versions, I doubt we'll see any for a while.

This is a non issue - I'll take either.
Laughter enhances the fun (I'll laugh at things I don't find funny, just because others are getting such a kick out of it) and it's nice to see the riffers expressions on screen. But with studio you can polish up the mistakes etc.
Cop out or not.... both.

If there was a "both" option I would have picked it, but there wasn't so I picked live.

I wasn't trying to complicate things or pit everyone against each other, but I think most people would vote "Both," because like I already said, "both" would satisfy everyone. I just wanted to know what people's preference would be if they HAD to select one or the other. I honestly assumed after "East Meets Watts" and all the pro-live people that came forward, the majority would have leaned toward LIVE... but so far, that hasn't been the case. If I would have put "both" as an option, that really wouldn't inform me of people's PREFERENCE between the two.

You know, the Marx Brothers, for years, would "tour" the comedy scenes from their upcoming movie, all over the country, to try out the jokes until they got them as good as they could get them. THEN they went in and filmed the movie.
Maybe CT will do likewise. I wouldn't mind. For $9.99 it wouldn't kill me to have two versions of the same movie, at least some of the time.
Ya' HEAR that, Titans?...
