I knew Hollywood lost it's mind a long time ago, but.......you've got to be KIDDING ME!!! And they're going to make him PC? Then he's not Speedy, is he? It's either remakes up the wazoo (Clash Of The Titans, A Nightmare On Elm Street, an upcoming remake of Kurosawa's Ikiru, any western) or bad 3rd grade sense of humor comedies, TV shows, comic books or old cartoons movies. I might be one of the few here to say this but I hate political correctness. It's like people have lost their sense of humor. If you can't laugh at yourself, then who can you laugh at? And aren't all cartoon characters, in some way, non-pc? I am Portuguese, and there is no race who's made more fun of in Hawai'i then the Portuguese. Maybe that's it, we tease everyone here and you either laugh or you're going to be offended and end up moving. I don't wish for the awful days of black face and other comedy of that type, but if you take all stereo types out of comedy, what are you left with? The 2 people who wrote the Garfield movie are assigned to it, oh that gives me a whole lot of confidence. You're right, this should be 100% rifftrax material.

I assume in 2011 we'll be getting a Foghorn Leghorn movie...

I agree, I am sick of Political Correctness. When it comes to humor, at least from my writing, acting, and stand-up perspective, I don't make jokes about people because I hate them, or it's anything personal. I make the joke because I find many many facets of human life interesting, weird, odd, or funny, and I love to share it with people. Reading that story made me break a little inside.
Next thing you know there'll be an Bugs Bunny movie, but he won't be allowed to mock Elmer Fudd because he can't say his r's correctly.

"I am Portuguese, and there is no race who's made more fun of in Hawai'i then the Portuguese."
That's so strange, to me. I had no idea there were or weren't Portuguese in Hawaii. What is the basis of the mockery? Do they not like Spam or something?

What is the basis of the mockery? Do they not like Spam or something? Damn, that's funny Bix!! You know of our love of spam! And yes, my favorite Monty Python sketch is the Spam sketch. It sounds like the menu at a few Hawai'i restaurants. There is a large Portuguese community in Hawai'i. They first arrived here, from the Azores and Madeira islands, in 1879 (that would be my great, great grandparents), when Hawai'i was still a kingdom. The native Hawaiians loved the Portuguese people so much that we are the only European race not tagged with the 'haole' word. Why? Because during the plantation days, the Portuguese were kind and had a great sense of humor. They took every joke with pride and dished it right back. We are loved... So doing a "Portagee" joke is sort of an ice breaker and has become a tradition here. You'll know if a Hawai'i person likes you if they start teasing you, it's what "talk story" is all about.

It's funny, not too long ago, I was in Barnes and Noble looking through the dirty joke books and none of them had a chapter for black or Mexican jokes, but they had plenty of blonde, Polish and Jewish jokes. Blondes, Pollacks, and Jews can take a joke apparently.

What about the Jewish rabbit from New York? The borderline rapist French skunk? The shifty rooster from Texas? The stuttering pig with the really white-bread hobbies?
ect. ect. ect.

Jewish jokes are awesome, and from what I can tell, are mostly told by Jews, not anti-Semites. (I am Jewish, for the record)
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks Pepe Le Pew is basically a creepy rapist.
To stay on topic: oh god this movie looks awful

It does look awful. I can't wait until it's on cable about three months after release.

Racist? To who?
Certainly not to me (a Mexican) and certainly not to the League of United Latin American Citizens, the group who lobbied to bring back Speedy Gonzales after he was banned from Cartoon Network.

Certainly not to me (a Mexican) and certainly not to the League of United Latin American Citizens, the group who lobbied to bring back Speedy Gonzales after he was banned from Cartoon Network. Well, that was news to me. However, I fail to see how Speedy is a stereotype, apart from the voice. Mel Blanc did a great voice for him. He was upbeat, friendly, and good to his community. He wasn't lazy or shifty in any way, and was always the hero. How is this considered a hurtful stereotype? Is it the traditional dress and the voice? Because that was a great way for the audience who was unfamiliar with Mexicans to know he was Mexican in the first place. If anything, Slowpoke Rodriguez was more of a stereotype than Speedy.

Thanks, Alvin and The Shitmunks. You're ruining the rest of Hollywood. I mean...Tom and Jerry? Yogi Bear? Speedy Gonzales? Marvin the Martian? The Smurfs? Marmaduke?* How about we get the original cartoons back on TV before crappy remakes come out?
*Yes, all of those projects have been greenlighted.
