You're welcome, glad to hear you're making progress. I don't feel like I really did anything, but it's always nice to have another mind thinking about a problem. And if you can't use a search engine during a computer breakdown, well, that's just a nightmare. I'm guessing the virus might have had something to do with the program not working the first time. I read that it can stop .exe files from executing, which is not good.
With all the computers I've screwed up in my life, the Internet's always come to my rescue. It's nice to try and return the favor sometimes, and save someone else from the hours of repetitive problem solving it entails. That's also why 2 of my 3 pc's are now on Linux. Once I get a Linux OS functioning, it's basically indestructible, now matter how stupid I am.

well, i hope i'm not jinxing myself, but it has been working fine since i ran the tdss killer. weird how all i had to do was rename it to get it to open. but still there are no commercials suddenly coming on, no more script errors and google is working properly. this time i have it written down in case this ever happens to me again. now back to pointless google searches!
