In the following review I will talk about both the movie and the episode as well as the features of the DVD from Shout!
Movie: This is actually one of the better movies featured on MST3K. However it still has a lot of flaws. The story is about an astronaut who comes back down to earth in sort of an alien like form(Monster A Go-Go anyone?) He brings little baby aliens in his chest(whats that from...hmm) and also a grown parrot monster. A group of scientists bring him to a hospital and try to find out if he is really dead. The monster is not so much a Blood Beast as he is just a, well just a plain beast. The monster doesn't really have much to do in the movie, early on in the hospital it is dark and moody. This is the perfect setup for a monster film but doesn't amount to much more than just one guy getting attacked and one guy getting killed. Acting is ok at best, certainly not laughably bad. I like the films direction but it didn't do as much as it could have with the set up. 6/10
Episode: Very funny and solid episode. The short "Once Upon A Honeymoon" is very, very stupid but very funny. The Episode itself starts out a little slow but picks up when they get to the hospital. There are also a lot of running jokes in this episode such as "Steve!" and "Its as if hes dead!". Along with most of season 7 it is one of the must see episodes, while not as good as something like "Santa Clause" it is great episode to watch at just about anytime instead of having to be in a certain mood. 9/10
Audio(DVD): This is the only problem I have with MST3K dvd's. They don't do a very good job of making sure that all the jokes are easy to hear over the movie. Luckily here I could hear all the jokes fine, I think its just certain episodes like Manhunt in Space where the sound is just unbalanced from the start. Though there are no audio options, the single track they present you with should be fine enough, if not it is definitely better than what rhino was putting out. 8/10
Features(DVD) While the dvd has only one feature actually about the film which is the trailer, it also has something which fans have been wanting for quite a while. Yes we finally get the Turkey day Intros and the Turkey Day version of the episode! I hope Shout! continues this tradition with its future releases although I would have liked to see more about the movie but I can tell that most of the features went into "Santa Clause" since it was a more popular episode. 7/10
Overall I would recommend this episode to newbies and fans alike of MST3K. I would also recommend that you pick up the DVD box set since it has great features not just for this episode but others as well as great episodes themselves. 8/10 Episode, 9.5/10 DVD Set
