Is the movie an overall dud, yet there's one scene that makes it worthwhile? Is the picture an overall success, but one scene still manages to trump the others? Readers be warned that spoilers lie beneath. Users, weigh in on the funniest scenes of pictures.
Spaceballs - "Ludicrous Speed"
Spaceballs has a lot of great moments, and all of them involve the film's villain played by Rick Moranis. I was forced to debate between this scene, Michael Winslow's cameo, and watching the instant cassette. Ultimately, the "Ludicrous Speed" scene strikes me as being the overall funniest, with Moranis giving a hilarious performance as the nefarious leader overwhelmed by faster-than-light speed.
Raising Arizona - "Mobile Home Brawl"
I almost think that this movie might qualify as a black comedy, but its humor is a lot more obvious than most films classified as black comedy. Furthermore, you can see by the trailers than it was marketed as a traditional comedy, despite it being directed by the Coen brothers. I was given thought about a lot of the good lines and scenes such as, "Son, you got a panty on your head," the bounty hunter reading the graffiti on the wall, and the poor store clerk counting. Ultimately, it is this scene that strikes as particularly funny for myself and my dad. The best part is when Cage scrapes his hand on the ceiling.
Duck Soup - "The Mirror"
This film was a disappointment and seemed really mean-spirited. However, the most redeeming scene from the whole thing was this scene where Harpo, donning Groucho's greasepaint mustache, mirrors his brother's movements. My particularly favorite part of this is when Chico, for no reason whatsoever, just wanders in also wearing Groucho's signature greasepaint.
The Money Pit - "Walter Snaps"
This choice isn't a hard one. It follows a very funny scene where the kitchen is besieged by an exploding electrical failure. Tom Hanks' character returns to the bathroom, wearing a shirt with holes burnt around his nipples. He pours a bucket of water into the tub, which falls through the floor and shatters to pieces. Hanks can only look upon the carnage and go into a hysterical laughter.
Super Troopers - "Shenanigans"
Now, I do like this film. It's not my favorite, but I do like it. I'm not a fan of this Broken Lizard troupe, and, of the films of theirs I've seen, this is probably their only competent one. My appreciation for it isn't the purely juvenile humor of one of the characters wearing nothing but a metallic athletic supporter, but rather when he inquires about one of his fellow officers' shooting accuracy and points to a stray bullet hole at the target's neck; that's funny. As far as my favorite gag, it would have to be this one where the main characters taunt Brian Cox with the word "shenanigans".
Monty Python and the Holy Grail - "Camelot"
This scene features one of the troupe's most enjoyable songs. The hilarious sight of armored knights dancing about and a tortured prisoner clapping by himself are a significant boon. After this scene, though, the film seems to rather slip into a sort of lower gear. It is still a great film, though, and my personal favorite of the Python films.
