I've known about this project for months, personally, but this is the first official word we've had about this happenning. I got the word on it from a poster at the Toho Kingdom message boards, who was appearantly getting word from an inside source. He accidentally let the info slip days before the negotiations were announced and kept telling us to be patient because they were moving in a positive direction. I usually take things like with a grain of salt, but he was proven right so I can't doubt him anymore.
Other than that, I'm just like any other internet person. I get my info from my favorite news sites (in my case comingsoon.net).

I wonder if they'll go revamp or reinterpretation. Godzilla better not be a bloody iguana, is all I'm saying.
I'm hoping for a Japan setting. I mean, NYC is okay, but it always belonged to Kong and I think the big squid thing in Cloverfield screwed the pooch there anyway.
Maybe throw in some decaying Japanese societal values instead of post-war miltary fears?

I'm really excited about this. I just finished collecting DVD versions of each movie in Japanese with english subtitles so now I finally have something else to look forward to. I saw the 1998 movie in theaters and was hoping that it and G2K wouldn't be the only one I'd see in a theater. Can't wait to see some behind the scenes pics.

Turns out this shouldn't be taken as a final design: it was done just for the early promotion (think the poster for the '70s King Kong), but it still shows a difference in Legendary's strategy from Tristar's.
Tristar: Let's spend practically two years not showing the monster and hyping up that its from the guys who made Independence Day and repeat the double entendre tagline over and over.
Legendary: I want you guys to make a big picture of a recognizable Godzilla blowing s!#t up and put together a 15 second trailer of a city in flames for Comic Con!

The Toho Kingdom reaction so far has been hilarious.Surprising that the biggest Edwards detractors are August and Chris55, the latter of which has been optimistic and excited about this project, but kind of blew up when the director was named. His hissy fit has been amusing. And somewhere in the thread August compared Monsters the movies Asylum makes. I haven't seen Monsters, but I've seen the trailer. The trailer alone had more soul than anything Asylum has made.

I read them mostly for kicks (their personalities are way too extreme), but August and Keith always have good updates on Kaiju goings on, and Chris usually teases new dirt on the new Godzilla movie, so it's always worth a look.
Not worth posting in though. You can't say "I believe air is good" without someone getting in your face and calling you a troll.

This seems rather silly, but my grandpa told me that Shaquille O'Neal will be in this remake, and he'll be looking at Godzilla in the wrong direction.
He was most likely pulling my leg there.

^Perhaps memories of the Godzilla vs. Charles Barkley TV ad campaign inspired said leg pulling?
-BTW, though I haven't seen Monsters something about the plot (also written by Edwards) makes me feel good: while the monsters cause havoc they are not evil, and we sympathize with them. In the heyday of the Toho monster movies ('50s and '60s) I never felt any of the creatures were evil, just true to their natures.
