Aside from MST3K I am a huge stand-up comedy buff. Anytime there is a special on TV - Whether it's on HBO or Comedy Central - I just have to watch it. Especially if it's a favorite comedian. I collect stand-up DVDs as much as possible, lol, and I go to the Improv from time to time. I wish I went more. It's a great experience.
I'm weird in a sense that I'd rather watch stand-up than listen to it, even though I have CDs and mp3s on my ipod. Oh well...lol.
So, who are some of your favorite stand-up comedians?
Here's a list of some of mine in no particular order:
Lewis Black, George Carlin, Harland Williams, Jim Gaffigan, John Pinette, Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Sam Kinison, Richard Pryor, Craig Ferguson, Christopher Titus, Gabriel iglesias, Brian Regan, Adam Ferrara, Sinbad, George Lopez, Jeff Dunham, Jeremy Hotz, John Caparulo, Eddie Izzard, Bill Maher, Tim Allen, Frank Caliendo, John Fox, Greg Travis, Lisa Lampanelli, Mitch Hedberg, Denis Leary, Bill Engvall, Ron White, Jeff Foxworthy, Whoopi, Roseanne, Larry the Cable Guy, Kevin Nealon, Kevin James, Wanda Sykes and the list goes on and on with others I can't think of @ the moment.

George Carlin's specials were always fantastic. And I have a special place in my heart for Billy Connolly's HBO performance Pale Blue Scottish Person (if only I could find it somewhere).
Eddie Murphy's Raw, Denis Leary's No Cure For Cancer, Jake Johannsen's This'll Take About An Hour and a Rick Ducommun special (can't remember the name) also stand out for me. Don't watch as much stand-up these days.
I don't think it's weird you'd rather watch a comedian than just listen to them. Their mannerisms can play a big part in the crowd reaction. You can lose a lot without that.

Can we go way back in time? I loved Jonathan Winters. I also like Steve Martin, Bob Newhart, Richard Pryor, Steven Wright, Maria Bamford (she was a musical guest on MST3K), Andy Kaufman, Joel Hodgson (I saw almost all of his TV performances in the 80's), Jeff Dunham, Buddy Hackett, George Carlin, Gabriel Iglesias, The Blue Collar guys, and Garry Shandling. Like you, I know there's more that I'm missing.
If you noticed, with the exception of Richard Pryor and George Carlin, most of the comedians I like don't swear, or swear very little. I don't find swearing all that funny and it makes me think the comedian is afraid that the act isn't funny without it. Richard and George were different, the swearing was vital to who they were as individuals and was not an attempt to be "funnier."
Did you notice that Dane Cook isn't on our lists? I wonder why? Personally, I don't find him funny.

Most, if not all of them actually! =D And yes, I don't find Dane Cook funny either! I don't mind his acting, but his comedy I can't get into. I've tried since his comedy central presents episode and I just can't do it...I'll watch him with friends, but I'd rather be watching George Carlin, haha!

It bugs the crap out of me when that's all that comedians do. I have a 10 year old brother who loves ANYTHING I love, it it sucks when I find something funny but I can't show it to him, or when we're watching something together and they start swearing. It's a real pain... That being said, I LOVE George Carlin, the Blue Collar Guys, Joel Hodgson (The little I've seen), and... apparently I don't watch a whole lot. Oh well.

Yes! I forgot about Mort Sahl. I can add Jackie Mason, Henny Youngman and Rodney Dangerfield to the list. I'll also add Jack Benny, he did start off as a stand-up comedian. Dane Cook humor, 'Don't you hate it when you're drunk, and you can't balance, so you're banging into the walls, and your friends are laughing their a---s off in the background?" And his audience is laughing hysterically at nothing he actually said, just the situation he's talking about. Thanks Krissette, I also liked your choices. Gizmonicgirl92, it must be tough when Jeff Dunham's on. I'm sure your little brother must love him, but every so often, he'll throw some adult humor in.

We'll be laughing away, then he'll say something, and I'm just like "crap..." He's pretty good about it though, if someone tells him to turn it off he will, and he doesn't repeat it. That way, neither of us gets in trouble!

Ahhh Jeff Dunham is everywhere now. Shows, DVDs, specials. It's insane how much his career grew within the last few years.
I met him once @ the Improv a few years ago. He was performing for his daughter's Birthday. He's a pretty nice guy! I had to get a Walter doll signed, haha! Walter is my favorite, but I can only watch Jeff Dunham once in a while.

You have a Walter doll? I was going to say I wanted an Achmed one, but realized we all have Achmed dolls. They're in a box, kept in our closets, for Halloween. Jeff's been around for so long, it's kind of nice to see him in the spot-light.
