They've been announced. This is one of the two big sci-fi/fantasy annual awards (the other is the Nebula). But I read along with the Hugos every summer. Anyone else want to? I'll post reactions here. I haven't read any of these so far this year, although I've had Mieville's sitting on my nightstand since it came out.

I'm in. I wanted to read those books on children's/teen's science fiction and the other one on feminism anyway. I need some new novels to check out too.

The feminism one looks good, and I've seen decent reviews of it. The one on Joanna Russ is another one I've wanted to read, and seems even better. She's certainly the "flagship" feminist SF writer, if anyone is. Hardcore stuff. She wrote a really good book about feminist writing itself called "How to Suppress Women's Writing" which is a great read. I'll start with the novels, but I'll get to those two, likely. The shorter stuff (novelettes, novellas, and short stories) always turn up on the web somewhere for the most part, and I'll see if I can find links.

I've read a bunch of the 'zine stuff, a couple of the graphic novels, and obviously seen the flicks (save for Avatar) and series' episodes (save for Flash Forward). I think I read part of Palimpset, but I can't remember for sure.

Usually, I've read something that's on the list. Not this one. And, I read Robert Charles Wilson and Robert J. Sawyer, so it's strange to have missed those stories. The Novella finalists are all interesting writers. I'm reading Nancy Kress' Steal Across The Sky, right at this moment.
I would add James Tiptree, Jr. to go along side Joanna Russ. Boy, did 'he' have every-one fooled back in the 70's.

Boy, did 'he' have every-one fooled back in the 70's. Good bio of him/her that came out a few years ago: James Tiptree, Jr.: The Double Life of Alice B. Sheldon. Sheldon certainly had a more dramatic life, but Russ's fiction is much angrier and edgier. Both are must-reads, though.

My first two showed up today:
Palimpsest by Catherynne M. Valente and Wake by Robert J. Sawyer.
I'll probably start with Palimpsest and start posting reactions. Anyone else gonna play along?

I've been looking for the books, but it's been difficult. I may break down and go Amazon.
