And I'll throw my predictions up there (granted after one game):
AL
Yankees over Twins in 5. Rangers over Tampa in 5.
Rangers over Yankees in 5.
NL
Phillies over Reds in 3. Braves over Giants in 5.
Phillies over Braves in 4.
WS
Phillies over Rangers in 5.
The Yankees have just looked vulnerable to me, and for some reason I don't believe in the Rays. Plus, I'll admit there's a little of my born-in-Texas bias hoping for something this year. But the NL just seems to belong to the Phillies.

^ I'd like to see a Twins-Reds World Series. But if the Twins don't make it, I wouldn't mind seeing the Reds win it. I also think Joey Votto should get NL MVP. But we'll see. The Queen City may have a 2nd Big Red Machine if they go to the World Series, and since my home team (Cleveland Indians) can't get anyone to watch their games...there's three options.... 1) Winter Carnival...which they are planning by November. 2) $1 Beer Night. 3) Remake "Major League" and get Charlie Sheen to revive his role as Rick Vaughn!

Well, the Twins are in the process of getting completely throttled by the Yankees. God, I'm not sure I can take much more of this. And I know I did this in last year's thread, and to re-emphasize I'm not a guy who blames the umps for a team's problems or that there should be instant replay in every situation, but come on. That Twins-Yankees game last night was a travesty of home plate umpiring. TBS even took the pitch track thing of the screen after Gardenhire got kicked out of the game. sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-twinsyankeesumpires100710I don't know. It maddening. End rant. And congrats to Tim Lincecum on his two hit shutout. Seeing some great, dominating performances on the mound this post season.

Sounds like a good meeting to be a fly on the wall, but since some of the problem seems to be the way MLB evaluates the umpires, and MLB doesn't appear to be part of the meetings, no, I don't think it really will.
Everything the umpires do is now subject to much greater scrutiny than it ever was before, simply because everyone - including fans - have access to the technology that allows incredibly thorough analysis of practically every play. Baseball wasn't always watched this way, but it is now and forever more, so they have to figure out a way to get the classic umpire's view and the technological thoroughness to jibe, or it's going to be a mess.
And another thing, does anyone have a good breakdown of how exactly the on-screen ball/strike indicators work? I know I've heard some basics, but I'd like to know the specifics of those systems and the ones umpires reportedly use to evaluate their own performance.

Arrgghh!! I'm sick of facing the Yankees in the playoffs year after year!!!! (Well, it feels like every year) I wonder if the Yankees threw the last few games of the regular season so they could face the Twins in the playoffs. Twins always seem to wet themselves in the Yankees presence. Ok, I'm just venting. Now I feel better.

I was making plans to sort out a work pattern that would allow me to stay up and watch the Twins in the playoffs. No need, they're out before I even got to see a game.
The most frustrating thing about it is it's the Twins own fault. If they could have gotten any sort of winning streak going in the last fortnight they could have avoided the Yankees, at least for now.

Such a great season, and such a waste in the playoffs. For an entertaining view of the Twins/Yankees series, I recommend the Twitter feed of none other than Mr. Mike Nelson www.twitter.com/michaeljnelson

As a White Sox fan, the Twins' demise feels absolutely delicious. The Twins may have beat us up this year, but at least we won a World Series in and amongst the last SEVEN times the Twins gave up in the ALDS.

And we did it without the indignity of bringing in Manny Ramirez out of desperation. We'll always have that.

I was at both games where he came to the bat with bases loaded and struck out. (Of course, Konerko struck out in both situations right before him, too...) Sad. At least Ozzie's entertaining when he loses.

I would just like to note that, as of the Rangers' win tonight, my picks are all still valid. I was even close on the game counts. Nice.

How awesome was it that the Rangers scored twice (TWICE!) in the game from second base on a ground ball out?
Answer: Much awesome.
Aggressive baseball against a team playing scared will always pay off.

Aggressive baseball against a team playing scared will always pay off. Awesome, yes. But largely the Rays' fault. One of them would have been an easy out if 1st base hadn't decided to argue with the up for a second.
