Sweet poopie. I may finally stop fighting it and get a Netflix account for old Whos. I got Dreamland and King of Demons on DVD. Finally got my second series of Torchwood too.

I am an easily-led sheep when it comes to eliciting tears/emotion from a viewing audience. I did my best to hide it from my 17-year-old son, who watched the Christmas episode with me. Well, the Titanic one didn't make me cry (until the *very* end). What do you who post in this thread do about American TV editing out big chunks of the program to suit run times? HOW did the Doctor and the boy defeat the shark at the wardrobe door?

Astrid Peth (along with Sally Sparrow), one of the companions that "shoulda been". He would've gotten over Rose a lot faster...I'm just sayin'. HOW did the Doctor and the boy defeat the shark at the wardrobe door? ...and I'm embarrassed to say, but I don't remember...I've been watching A LOT of Doctor Who lately, but I've only watched the Christmas Carol once... *filled with shame*

It probably involved the screw driver, the bow tie, some gum, and duct tape, right?

I think it involved a door frame and the sonic getting familiar with the sharks tummy, Mrs. CS. As for editing, I was always seeing the episodes on DVD for 1-4 and the Specials. I finally discovered the problem the first time I watched the first episode of Series 5 on DVD and realized how much had been missing from the broadcast version I had watched. It turned Amy from annoying to tolerable with a few cut scenes/lines. Wow, I just watched that one last night. Astrid Peth (along with Sally Sparrow), one of the companions that "shoulda been". He would've gotten over Rose a lot faster...I'm just sayin'. Kylie had to "locomote", if you will.

Christmas was a Doctor Who DVD/Book boondoggle for me... Box Set - Trial of a Time Lord (Colin Baker's final season) Box Set - New Beginnings (The Keeper of Traken/Logopolis/Castrovalva) These are favorites of mine. When "Trial of a Time Lord" first came out I was kinda blown away because I hadn't really liked Colin Baker's first season at all. The "Trial" stories varied quality-wise, but I remember thinking "At least Doctor Who is becomming smart/interesting/ambitious again." I hadn't really felt that way about the show since the "E-space"/"New Beginnings" stories (though there were some occassional gems).

Kylie had to "locomote", if you will. I read that as "Kyrie had to 'locomote,'" and I wondered what I had done.

I would totally agree. Good, but not GREAT! Still enjoyed it, though. Maybe it'll grow on me after multiple viewings...Nice examples, btw, Shep. I must've been on crack when I wrote this... I LOVED THIS EPISODE!! There, I said it. I watched it again last night. Magnificent. I don't know what (or if) I was thinking before. So many great moments with Matt Smith. "What kinda tie is that?" "A cool one" I'm at a loss for words, and time, right now, but I will be back with a more in depth review later this week. Great Doctor, great show.

I STILL have to go back to the Eccleston episodes and watch. I skipped it because I wasn't really sure I'd even like the show, and I had heard Tennant was the best, so I started with series 2. Now after watching everything of Tennant's (who still is THE Doctor) and all but the xmas special of Smith's (who is great as well), I am absolutely obsessed with this show. But I still can't bring myself to watch series one. I even started up the episode "Dalek" because normally I love anything having to do with the Daleks, but even that didn't grab me.
Are there any series one episodes I should watch, even if I can't get into the rest of them?

I would recommend them all, but for sheer plot development, I'd go with "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances" and "Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways". Intro to Jack Harkness in the former, and The Doctor's regeneration in the latter.

I agree with Scotty's suggestions, although I'd start off from the beginning, actually. A lot of meaty info in the first few episodes, including reasons for all those Rose references you've seen. "Rose" is still a favorite episode of mine, and I think Eccleston's "Doctor Vs. Dalek" interaction is the most superior of the three. And you know how good the other two are, so you know that's saying something!
