I came here for a moment to breathe and laugh. I haven't been my friendly self recently, especially on my Facebook page. I've been a grumpy, curmudgeon chicken who's been pushing the edge of taste a bit too much. I'm just so anti-political that election time for me is like an over head fireworks show for cats and dogs. Just stop the insanity! And that's for all sides from my perspective except for here in Hawai'i where we decided communism works best. Who needs a second party! Just toe the party line and you'll be just fine..."What? Your parents didn't vote for (Fill-in-the-blank) What's their names?" That's an actual experience I had with a hard line political co-worker a few years ago. In case you don't know democrats run this state. I'm not anti-democrat or republican (I'm anti both). It's just democrats run this state and any anti political person in Hawai'i will be anti-democrat because of it. Welcome to our homeless tax hell! Wait, I came here to relax and laugh. Here I go: There, that helped.

Question of interpretation and that is were many astrologers themselves seem to be at a loss when it comes to the fundamental question of how planetary influence works. They know that it does and they can show that it does but there You might like it as it one of the most pleasant looking websites in Astrology I came across is here

Well, actually, I'm an amateur astronomer and science freak so astrology is poison to me. The planets have no influence on us because they're planets and they are waaaaay too far away to influence a flea. The beware of Leo thing was a joke that happened because of an exchange a long time ago on this board and that person happened to be born under a bad sign. It was my joke on how easy astrology works by being vague, or in this case by blaming your bad day on someone under a different sign. I was so innocent back then...

Time for a hi and an enjoyable update on my neighbor Ms. Madame Pele. Things have been shaking up quite a bit with the collapse of the Pu'u O'o crater floor. I've been feeling some earthquakes here in Ainaloa over the last few weeks and looking at the earthquake map on the HVO site I can see why. The magma seems to be moving down the east rift zone and if it does erupt somewhere else the guess is it'll be between highway 130 and Kapoho, which had an eruption in 1960. A map that the USGS shared on Facebook shows inflation of the land near Pahoa towards where I live and along most areas of the east rift zone. Civil Defense has sent out alerts for the area so we're all paying close attention. Up at Kilauea the lava lake in Halema'uma'u has risen and overflowed a few times over the last week. It is now visible for all to see. So for now I'll just: Thanks for reading. Until next time, aloha and mahalo!

Update:
As of about 2 hrs ago a fissure has opened up in the Lealani Estates in lower Puna. That subdivision is about 5 miles ESE of where I live. To say things are a bit frantic right now is putting it mildly. There was a loud boom last night then today there was a 5.0 earthquake that caused a pink plum out of Pu'u O'o vent and a drop in the lava lake in Halema'uma'u crater.
So we'll stay on our toes here and see what happens.
Until next time, aloha & mahalo.

I just saw the news reports on this and thought of this thread. Glad you're alright but be careful out there! Thanks Mod City. I'm living this old Chinese proverb right now: May you live in interesting times. Boy is it ever interesting. We just had a 5.6 earthquake which knocked things of my shelves and a fifth fissure has opened up in Leilani Estates. Being vigilant is the key word right now. Things are going to stay interesting.

Alright, to say that 6.9 earthquake scared the poopie out of me is putting it mildly. I had things fall off my shelves and there's a lot of damage in stores and other places with 10,000 people without power. There's some reports that some small cracks have opened in Ainaloa but I can't verify it. Let's just say it's getting, very, very spooky. I suffer from anxiety and yep, this is putting that too the test. lol.
I'll try to keep reporting what's going on here but hopefully that was the largest quake and those cracks were caused by the quake.
Until later, aloha and mahalo.

I don't visit the forum as much as I used to, but after seeing the news (what scary and other-worldly shots they are showing) I had to check in see how you were.
Stay safe my friend.

Thanks Mighty Jack. The cracks here were just earthquake related so whew. A few hours ago a thirteenth and fourteenth fissure opened up in Leilani Estates, the fourteenth opening up right on Kahukai Rd which is one of only two roads that lead down into that area. The subdivision just below Leilani, Lanipuna, has an immediate evacuation order because of it with directions on how to get out. If you look up a map of the area it would be right below Lava Tree State Monument. Kahukai Rd. is a beautiful road to drive through, although dangerous, because it gets narrow enough for barely two cars too fit through. It's because they built the road between the trees without moving the trees or cutting back on the forest. So getting out is going to be slow for those who stood there despite the evacuation orders. But my area and my family are ok. Just keeping vigilant and waiting and watching what'll happen next. Aloha.

It's been a year since you last posted here, but if you happen by.... guess what, I FINALLY saw Maborosi. I picked up the Milestone DVD and absolutely loved it. It's very slow and I can see why some folks complain about that, and that theirs not much of a story. But if this picture proves anything, it's that cinema has many facets and can be about capturing an emotion, a feeling or mood, rather than simply leaning on traditional storytelling. The cinematography is amazing and does a lot to convey that emotion.
I think I have a new favorite film of 1995. And my 5 favorites from Kore-eda?
1. Maborosi 2. Still Walking 3. Nobody Knows 4. Our Little Sister 5. Shoplifters
And I hope all is well with you?

Our Little Sister 5. Shoplifters And I hope all is well with you? Hirokazu Kore-eda, along with Andrei Tarkovsy, are the only directors I have the complete films on blu-ray. I had to buy all his films up to Air Doll; except Still Walking which Criterion has; from Bandai Visual in Japan. I bought myself an all-region BD player because I had to get the rest of his films from England. I just watched Shoplifters about a month ago. I loved the ending. It felt a lot like Rene Clement's Forbidden Games. If you haven't seen After Life yet that'll also become a favorite of yours. Very beautifully profound. I'm doing fine. After the eruption last year it's all good. We're now in the news for a completely disingenuous story which the media, and attention hogs, are eating up. Natives Hawaiians in Hawai'i are not being trampled on by the TMT telescope being built here. It had nine years of open meetings that anyone could speak at. The protesters chose not to speak. It passed every stage of environmental studies and impacts. This protest was planned to be a victimization story to get the media on their side. This is really a sovereignty issue where a group of Hawaiians want to break away from the US and go back to the Hawaiian Kingdom and they're using TMT as a podium. Some are genuinely kind about it and some are, well, extremely racist. I share this link for those who want to see facts about it. The person didn't get to the aquifer question yet but the aquifer is at the 6,000ft level so the TMT isn't anywhere near the aquifer level. Anyway, I had to grandstand there. I hope you and everyone else here has been doing well and I have to visit more often. Aloha and Mahalo.

I did buy an After Life DVD years ago. I think I have it ranked 6th or 7th. I've gone through most of his features. I actually liked The Third Murder, which some fans didn't care for. The only one I struggled with was Distance, and I can't honestly grade it in full, because I didn't finish it - so that's one I'll need to come back to later. (I couldn't get into the story or characters. Didn't like the use of shaky-cam)
That leaves the documentaries and his miniseries left to watch. Someone at Youtube was posting the mini (Going My Home) with English subs.... but then stopped at the 7th ep. The final 3 were left off. Bummer.
I finally bought an all-region player 3 years ago because I was getting tired of waiting for Whistle Down the Wind and Perfect Blue to come out on DVD or BD in the States. Course, Shout then comes along and releases Blue on Blu. But still worth it as I've picked up a lot of Eureka (mostly Japanese films), BFI, Artificial Eye sets - and some BBC series.
And uhg, politics. I read the link and some of the articles he linked too. It sounds very frustrating. (I blame Bernays - the Father of lies. Or at least one of the fathers of screwing with the truth in order to manipulate the public. Hearst was one of the other fathers. lol)

I have a few from all of them and of the four Eureka's I've so far bought three of them were Japanese films: The Burmese Harp, Floating Weeds and Onibaba. The other is Fritz Lang's The Testament of Dr. Mabuse. I have two UK Arrow releases, The Third Murder and The Human Condition. I also had to buy a number of Studio Canal titles which, of course, now looks like may get US releases again with The Kino and Criterion deals earlier this year. At least The Third Man was an all region. The only other UK company I've bought from is Indicator/Powerhouse. I grabbed the Sinbad Trilogy Box, the Budd Boetticher/Randolph Scott box and Antonioni's The Passenger. Thankfully they are region-free. Yeah, Distance works only if you watch it as a pseudo-documentary, keeping in mind the cult that gassed that subway train. I haven't had time to get to three of his films yet: Like Father Like Son, Our Little Sister and The Third Murder. Of the rest Hana is his weakest film too me, but it's a light weight comedy so it's just a diversion. I did enjoy the little twist of the most famous Ronin story at the end. For some reason I just never saw it coming. As for what's going on here, I'll just say it'll get worse before it gets better. Thankfully I do think we are just about at that worst. Like always here, Mahalo and aloha!
