There are some threads here for other shows, so I was wondering- anyone else out there watch Farscape? That's my other favorite show. I think it's the best Sci-Fi show out there. Things actually happen. Characters have actual emotions and have chemistry. It's not a sterile environment where people just sit around a conference table for 45 minutes EXPLAINING what's going on and what they're going to do, and then there's just 15 minutes of "action". The special effects, and make-up, for the most part, are movie quality. The characters are great, and interesting. They change and evolve, and they don't always get it right. Sometimes there are disastrous consequences to their actions, like real life. Everything's not black and white. The aliens are great -especially Zhaan and Scorpius. And Pilot is just such a great "puppet". I don't know if anyone else is going to contribute to this thread - or if I, myself, will come up with anything more to add if a conversation doesn't start - but, anyway - I love this show.

Is that what I am, a 'scaper? I can live with that.
On my list of favorite shows the only placements I'm sure of are #1, MST, and #2, Farscape. I started watching because of the incredibly beautiful, bald blue chick on the commercials; it was probably about the end of season 1. I remember being disappointed when I realized Crichton was forming a relationship with Aeryn rather than Zhaan. Seems so funny now, as Aeryn ended up not only my favorite character on the show, but one of my favorites from any show. She could outstare Clint Eastwood.
They did epic drama as well as any sci-fi show, and they did comedy better. Also loved the constant references. Star Trek did a lot of that too, but Farscape is loaded with them.

The look that hooked me.

Her makeup is beautiful. They did a really great job with it. (Must have been a pain to sit through the process). And Virginia Hey was really brave to actually shave her head and eyebrows for the part. (You can really see the difference when she comes back in later seasons to guest star - the bald cap is painfully noticeable).
I've recently begun to rewatch the eps from the beginning. I'm in Season 1 right now, I just finished the 10th episode - "They've Got a Secret".
They kind of made a blunder right out of the gate, though - In the pilot, it's established that Crichton can only understand everyone when he's injected with the translator microbes (interesting solution, though, how they can adapt to someone who hasn't been on that side of the universe, I don't know - unless they sort of exist everywhere and are connected, so anyone who has them injected can understand anyone else ANYWHERE, but anyway...) In the very next episode, "I, E.T.", those aliens who've never been off their planet, who we assume don't have the translator microbes either, seem to understand Crichton just fine. Do they speak ENGLISH? That's a stretch.
And in one of the early eps, "Throne for a Loss", I think, they goofed, too. D'Argo clearly says "hour" instead of "arn". Oh, well. No one's perfect. But I think this show gets as close as any.
Ben Browder and Claudia Black, I think, have the best chemistry of any space couple in the galaxy. That's why I hated it when they didn't put them together when they later starred on SG1. Claudia Black and Michael (can't think of his last name) -Edit: Shanks? - have absolutely zilch. That's what I mean when I say characters on Farscape have "real" emotions and chemistry. I didn't buy any possible relationship between Black's character on SG1 and Daniel. I didn't see any chemistry between Troi and Ryker on Star Trek. They were so BORING together.
Farscape does a much better job with this. The acting was so much better.
And it doesn't hurt that Ben Browder is gorgeous.

I'm a big fan of Farscape as well. I just finished watching Season 4 a couple of days ago. That last episode had one hell of an ending! Can't wait to get The Peacekeeper Wars from Netflix.
Some shows hook me right from the getgo. This was one of them. You definitely had to pay attention as you watched, especially when a story arc continued over several episodes. The storylines were compelling and the characters were well-drawn. And they had a terrific villain in Scorpius.

They kind of made a blunder right out of the gate, They made lots of them -- probably all sci-fi shows do -- what I like about Farscape is their sense of humor about it.

Farscape quote of the day: "Nobody here knows you - it's only people who know you who want to kill you." - Aeryn to Rygel "Thank God it's Friday...Again".

Another goof: D'Argo's age. He says in the pilot that he's "30 cycles" which is roughly the equivalent of 30 Earth years. But when we see his son, the kid is like 17, 18 at the youngest, or seems like it - so, D'Argo had his kid when he was THIRTEEN? When they show D'argo with his wife in memories he looks the same as he does now. Maybe Luxons have longer life spans than Earthlings, but their childhoods are shorter? Or maybe - they just goofed. I forget how long they said D'Argo was imprisoned, I'll have to rewatch one of the earlier eps and find it.
I just finished watching "Rhapsody in Blue". I didn't like the way they made other Delvians. The females had HAIR. Maybe it was just a certain sect that Zhaan belonged to, or just a personal choice to shave the head, but I think the baldness should have been a Delvian thing, and not a Zhaan thing. The guest actresses wouldn't have shaved their heads, of course, so they would have had to use the bald caps, but they could have been wearing some kind of headdress to cover that up. Oh, well.
Farscape quote of the day:
Aeryn: "She gives me a woody...a woody, it's an Earth term, I've heard you use it. When you don't trust someone, when someone makes you nervous..."
Crichton: "WILLIES - she gives you...the WILLIES." "Thank God it's Friday...Again."

Farscape quote of the day (Do we really need these? No, but - what're ya gonna do?):
Crichton: "Listen, Sunshine, do you wanna be part of this crew?"
Chiana: "On your good days."
Crichton: "This IS one of the 'good days'."
"Through the Looking Glass".

Farscape quote of the day: "I don't know what you've been smoking, Buckwheat, but we've got a real problem on our hands." - Crichton to Rygel. "Through the Looking Glass."
I liked all the nicknames Crichton came up with for Rygel: Sparky, Spanky, Buckwheat, Alfalfa, Guido, Fluffy.
I watched "A Human Reaction" and when the others see what Crichton thinks those on Earth would do to them if they ever encountered them, Aeryn says something like, "Even a PeaceKeeper would never dissect an enemy." Or something to that effect, don't remember the wording.
Uh...yes they would. In the pilot ep, Crais says to Crichton: "A human. I can't wait to take you apart and see what you're made of."
Her indignance was a little misplaced.

I never quite got that. We were seeing the real D'argo, Aeryn, and Rygel, is that right? In the very next episode, "I, E.T.", those aliens who've never been off their planet, who we assume don't have the translator microbes either, seem to understand Crichton just fine. Do they speak ENGLISH? That's a stretch. Also from I, E.T., when the little kid pronounces D'argo "Du - Argo." I remember being a kid and assuming you have to somehow pronounce apostrophes in names, is it possible that's what the actor did, and for whatever reason they left it in?

Farscape quote of the day: Mu-Quillus: " Stop what you are doing!" Crichton: "Is there some kind of stupid, alien quotation book you guys use?" "Meltdown" One of my favorite episodes.
