I just wish we wouldn't have to wait for an anniversary for studios to release these (I mean, are they really going to make me wait till 2013 for the Birds and its 50th anniversary?)
Lets get a bunch of these on blu-ray because the clairity and depth of picture is incredible. I'm chomping at the bit to see Bluray tackle the Vista Vision releases like To Catch a Thief and Vertigo.

A long, long time ago Deep Discount had a buy 1, get 1 free Blu-ray sale. I ordered Burton's Batman and North By Northwest. Batman came in a week later and I was charged. Then I waited... waited...waited... for my free NBNW to show up. Today it was in my mailbox --- and it looks stellar. I loved the blu-ray 3 dimensionality (is that a word), the picture is a beaut. It's in Warner's book format, but I don't mind that.
Now, more Hitch on Blu?
Theirs been some buzz that The Birds will be released next year on blu. But as I was scouring for more info, I found a blu-ray listing for Vertigo, Rear Window and Dial "M" for Murder, as well. No covers or release date or any info. But I wonder if the website knows something. It would be cool, I'm sick of this, 1 Blu a year, thing. Lets put out a bunch.

Just finished watching Juno & The Paycock on YouTube. What a horribly dull movie. It's like Hitch just pointed a camera at the (barely competent) actors and walked away.
This and Topaz (and I might mention Waltzes from Vienna as well) are without a doubt the most difficult Hitchcock films to sit through.

just bought this and I know it isn't Blu ray but I wanted these movies so I just went for it. once I peeled off it's shrink wrap I was very impressed with the packaging. Very impressed! I think the packaging makes this set a keeper. I know the movies themselves are just recycled from previous issues (as are the extras) but because I didn't own any of these I'm very happy. That looks like a cool collection.
As for blu, still waiting for word on the Birds. It keeps getting pushed back and back and back (and now Criterion is releasing the Lady Vanishes on blu Dec 6th, so at least there's something)

Made my monthly search for Hitch news and just spotted this.... another Blu-Ray update. "To Catch a Thief" on March 6th. Can't wait, this should look beautiful in that format. Thief details

The reviews are trickling in for the BD releases of Notorious, Rebecca and Spellbound. They look ok, but nothing too exciting. The original negatives are either damaged or missing, so the upgrade is never going to be perfect. Fortunately, they're cheap and will probably be 10 bucks each in a few months, so I'll finally be able to watch Notorious again. It's one of my favorites, but I never bought it because the dvd was so expensive.
Oh, and they all have some of the worst artwork possible. It looks like someone spent about 10 minutes coming up with those covers.

It sounds like Rebecca looks best, then Notorious. With Spellbound the weakest picture wise. I'll probably get Notorious. I already have a nice Rebecca DVD and can wait on that - and Criterion's Spellbound DVD was pretty definative.

That's good to know, thanks guys. I have the OOP Criterion DVD of Notorious so I'll skip that for now and get the other two on Blu Ray since I don't have them on DVD .
Rebecca is the only one of those 3 I haven't seen yet. It will be nice to have some Hitchcock in my new, small but growing Blu Ray collection(I only have 6 movies and Alien Anthology box set so far). Eventually I will have to upgrade some of my other Hitch movies to Blu Ray, need to know first if the upgrade is worth it before I do it.

Hitch is my favorite director. This thread has made me go back and revisit some of my favorites. I had the flu over the weekend and decided to have a personal marathon. I viewed 17 of them in 3 days. I can't remember ever enjoying being sick so much. On a less happy note, watching those movies made me yearn for the days when mainstream movies didn't rely on jump cuts and one-liners to tell their narrative. As much as I love technology and the access to our wants it provides at the blink of an eye, in many ways it has ruined the average consumers attention span. I miss landline telephones, face to face conversations not derailed by secondary texting conversations, and card catalogs in libraries. It used to be about the journey.... Now that my mini-rant is over, my goal is to seek out the few Hitch movies I don't own. MJ, thank you for the time you spent on a subject I have such affection for.

Want Hitchcok on Blu? Here's a big ol collection of them... Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection DetailsSounds great. I do hope they release them individually as well. I already have Psycho and North by Northwest and don't really need Topaz on blu as it's one of my least favorites.

I have all of the Top 25 on DVD, but the only ones I've watched so far are To Catch A Thief, Lifeboat, Dial M For Murder, The Lady Vanishes, Rebecca, Psycho, Strangers On A Train, Rear Window, North By Northwest, and Vertigo. Of these Rebecca, Psycho, Rear Window, North By Northwest, and Vertigo are my favorites, and I practically have them memorized. A few of my discs are Criterion, including Rebecca which I lucked into getting for 50 cents a couple years ago. Of the movies not in the Top 25 I've also watched The Trouble With Harry, which was fun. I also have the discs for Alfred Hitchcock Presents Seasons 1 through 5 but have yet to watch any of them. A friend I lent them to has really enjoyed them, though. At this point I am not in a position to upgrade anything to Blu-Ray, and I'm OK with that.
