I know not everyone has a blu-ray, and in truth it's not perfect... so I imagine we will all be on to something else in a few years time. (plus Rhino's MST3K look pretty sorrowful through a Blu-ray player - That fight in Skydivers... one big blur. SHOUT DVDs have been much better, higher quality) If you wanna mention exciting DVD news that's cool too as their are times when something is released on DVD but not on blu. Excting news for me was to hear that we should be getting Del Toro's Cronos in December. It's a film I've long wanted to watch. www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4795Also some neat details on Twilight Zone Season 1 www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4797 And as I mentioned in the Hitchcock thread, just in time for Halloween, the 2nd US Bluray release of one of the Masters films (the first was North By Northwest) www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4590

Criterion Hints at Sweet Smell of Success and Night of the Hunter www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4819Nothing specific but I'd love to see Hunter remastered on the Blu, that movie had such atmosphere.

I've noticed Amazon has a lot of Blu-rays on sale. The Searchers for $10 (heard this was a great looking release) Watchmen Ultimate Cut is half off at 28.49 and Funimation? is on sale.

I'm watching blu-ray these days, and I'm liking it. I'm also on board for the Alien Anthology. I get my fix through Netflix and recently caught: Willy Wonka And The Chocolate FactoryBlu-ray can really bring out the color, and it does this very well here. Basic colors intensified. The movie is always good, and seeing it this sharp was fun. The French ConnectionThe same thing, only different. The whole film looks washed out like it always did, but scenes like the one where the characters are looking at merchandise in a storefront window show the color really popping out. I just moved, so I don't have my 5.1 set up yet. Gotta update the queue and get things set up.

Twlight Zone was released and the reviews have been glowing. I had questions wether blu would improve upon an old B&W TV show, but according to this site, it does... bluray.highdefdigest.com/3355/twilightzone_1959_s1.htmlI wish my local stores would carry Bluray TV for rent so I could check these out, (I'd love to see the upgraded original Star Trek as well)

I own the Bond DVDset and have been reluctant to purchases them all over again... but I wanted to at least see one, so I rented Dr. No - DAMN, that looks sharp, the detail was amazing (sometimes too amazing, you can really spot the eye makeup on Wiseman)
I think I'm gonna have to re-buy at least my favorite Bonds on blu-ray, as great as the DVDs are, this outclasses them.

Question? Doesn't Your Blu-Ray player up-convert Your standard dvd's to 1080? Most blu-ray players do if not all.. Or so I thought. Mine does and they look incredible on my screen. Especially when compared to my old dvd player.

Question? Doesn't Your Blu-Ray player up-convert Your standard dvd's to 1080? Most blu-ray players do if not all.. Or so I thought. Mine does and they look incredible on my screen. Especially when compared to my old dvd player. It does, but the DVDs themselves can't match the scope of a blu-ray disc. So they look great, better than through the DVD player... regardless, watching the blu-ray disc, through the player is a serious upgrade. I compared them back to back and it's no contest. The details and color on blu pop out much more than in the DVD. EDIT - here's how it was explained to me... Native Blu Ray transfers will always look better than a DVD. That's because the information is actually encoded on the Blu Ray whereas the upscaling on a DVD interpolates pixels of similar color next to the actually encoded pixel (or digit if you want to be precise) on the DVD.
