They did the trivia and Rifftones songs before the Christmas show, too. The trivia was fun, but the Rifftones always blow me away. I had the same thought as Frameous during the show, during a regular movie no matter how funny, there's never this much sustained hilarity, laughter and spontaneous applause, for that long. When I got home, I was so wired from having laughed that long that it took me hours to settle down enough to sleep. There's something great about being in a crowd that's obviously enjoying the show as much as you. The Grass short was my favorite, so unexpected, so 70s. The colorized version of Reefer Madness was kind of fun, since they chose a rather surreal palette. I love what they did with the smoke. I hadn't seen any of the riffed versions before, so it was all new to me. I'm really really looking forward to the Halloween show!

I went to see the show in Rochester, NY with my best friend and fellow MSTie. It was at a Regal Cinema and the theater was half full (we were all on the upper section) which was a pretty good turnout. The one for the Christmas show was a litle lower than this.
The show was awesome! The 3 shorts were a blast, with Grass being the big winner. ("David Lynch's Wedding Registry") The theater was just roaring with laughter during that one. The Gasoline one was great too, we were all roaring at the scene where the housewife was on fire ("The animation burns!!") The Aesop cartoon was pretty bizarre, not bad but def the weakest of the 3.
I didn't mind the Lowtax shorts, they were cute and short. I also have to give props to the Mock Trivia and Movie Quotes before the show. Most of them were very funny.
I had not watched their previous work on Reefer Madness so the jokes were all new to me, and I was very impressed. A fantastic job, our audience was laughing almost constantly with several jokes drawing big reactions (The one from Kevin about McCartney's alimony checks being one of em, The Last Airbender one also was killer.) One of my favorites was "Shroder and Lucy's Marrige: The Dark Years".
The colorization scheme didn't annoy me much, altough the different smoke colors for when they were smoking weed was weird but still funny. As a Three Stooges fan, I got a kick out of the Judge being the same Judge from "Disorder in the Court".
Other Favorite Riffs: “Vincent Price!” “Or my name isn’t the dad from Alf!” “Some guy said he was going to ‘have me’ at his Grandma’s pool party” “Bill put the ‘wad’ in ‘gaywad’” “It's Kramer!” “I know who Mel Gibson would blame” "Gary Shandling: The Early Years" “They got Judge Cheney!”
Rifftrax does it again and delivers another excellent live show. I'm looking foward to the next one, The House on Haunted Hill in October.

Been to CT live, but this was my first live Rifftrax event... thank God, they finally had one showing in a theater in my town! Didn't have to drive any amount of time, which made this a no-brainer to attend.
The shorts were so funny, I was sick from laughter. The Grass short truly is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen in my life! Reefer Madness, which was not one of my favorite 3-riffer DVDs upon my first viewing, was much funnier this time around! Great, great stuff! Had a great time, and well worth the price of admission! If you haven't been to a Riffrax LIVE event, please go! Its a hoot!
My only concern is that we didn't have a huge crowd (maybe 40 or so). There were actually more people there than I expected for our filthy, uncultured town... So, who knows if more Rifftrax LIVE events will return. But, by God, if they do come back... I'll be there for the hilarity!

God, that was one of the funniest things I've seen in my life. The shorts made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe. Reefer Madness itself was very funny as well. I loved the slides before the show started- parody at its best.

Didn't originally plan on going, but was able to get away and see it at the last minute here in Burbank. Mostly packed audience (only a few empty seats in front), and they were into it from start to finish. Going in, I was not a huge fan of the movie choice, as Reefer Madness is already kind of a joke in itself (I was hoping they'd do that bad "not Sinbad" movie that they had us voting on awhile back). But I had not seen the original Reefer Madness RT, so figured why not?
Funny as hell. Probably funnier than the PLAN 9 live event, although not sure if it quite beat out the Christmas show. The shorts were definitely the highlight, especially "Grass". Hope those are released via the website at somepoint. . .I'm sure they will be.
Next up is House on Haunted Hill, another one they've already done an RT for. Thankfully, I haven't seen that one, so I'll try to get out to that. These are so much better with an audience. I wish I could go back and watch every MST3K episode with an audience. . .

Glad everyone enjoyed it! We had just as much fun putting it on. Watching people react to seeing the Gasoline short and the Grasses one for the first time made my night.
Spackle, you put it the way I've always seen it. I don't think even the most popular Hollywood comedie can sustain the laughs the way the guys do at our live shows. Please try to come and see the next show or the encore if you didn't get a chance to see this one!

The cards and music both worked for my theater! Best song: When You're In Love With A Shark. Best cards: The Jacob/Bella and Brendan Fraser ones. HA!
The shorts were hilarious, but the clear winner was "Grass." I grew up in the seventies, and that type of non-sequitur, let's-glue-dried-weeds-to-cardboard-for-amusement crap was ubiquitious! Best shorts lines: "So, just to be clear, I can wash my kids' hair in gasoline, right?" "SO IS CORN GRASS OR NOT?? C'MON!"
And on to Reefer Madness! I too loved the colorization of the demon smoke, the way the hardened gangsters never thought to, y'know, charge for all that weed, and how one puff turned you into a shrieking with laughter hell-demon who dances wildly to piano music and takes off your blouse to lure the innocent! Best lines (off the top of my head):
I think of you as Juliet. / Only you're naked and a man. Bill assaults Mary. / Okay, in Bill's defence...know what? There is no defence. Rot in Hell, Bill! Gangster guy looks worried. / It's been twenty minutes, I'd better eat.
I'm buying the Christmas live DVD, buying this one as soon as it's released, and already arranging my time off for the Halloween show. God bless us, every one!

And now for some bitching.
This isn't about the guys, but about the theater, Pacific Place AMC! During the final moments of the film, the picture cut out, leaving perfect audio and a black screen.( Movies on the radio, a short lived fad.) They restored it but only after several choice riffs were lost. Pah to you, Pacific Place! Get it in gear!

Afgncaap5, I agree totally. I was not that impressed with the Rifftrax of this movie, but it was improved tonight, with only a few reused jokes. I thought the same thing. The original rifftrax was okay, but it seemed much funnier last night. I was wondering how much new material was here, since I watched the rifftrax too long ago to remember it all that well. Do you really think they only re-used a few jokes? I know when they did Plan 9 live they had new material but the majority of the jokes still seemed to be from the original rifftrax. Does anybody know if the 'squirrel's point of view' joke was in the original rifftrax? That was my favorite riff of the night.

The first 2 shorts were the best part of the evening for me. I was in stitches. I think I've seen that fire woman in an old Devo video, now I know the source.

Loved the whole show, but the grasses short was my favorite part. There were a few more people than the last one, so hopefully House on Haunted Hill will be here as well.

I saw it live in person in Escondido. I went with my two friends Steve & Kelli and my boyfriend, Matt. It was awesome in person. It was the hardest we had all laughed in a long time. My favorite show yet! We got great seats too. We were in the third row on the right hand side.
The best part of the night was spotting Bill smiling/laughing with me a couple of times during the show (aside from the first row, the two seats in front of me and my boyfriend were empty so you could easily look up and see us). That made my night.
I'm seeing the encore Tuesday. I can't wait to get this event on DVD. It was really funny. <3

The Theater in Orland Park,Il was 1/4 full but everyone had a great time. I hope they get HOHH in Oct as well.
My only gripe would be the theater it's self. You would think there would be promotional posters up or some other advertisement. With a title like Reefer Madness you could probably get a bigger audience. Did anyone else notice a lack of billing?

They did have one poster up advertising it in the theater I went to. No idea how long it was up.

Just got back from the encore. Me and the other 20 people who forgot about it last Thursday loved it!
