Christopher Nolan's new movie got critics in a spin - some call it out for ripping off other films, others are saying its brilliantly original (see this write up... La Times BlogIt sounds like a challenging movie, I'm looking forward to checking it out and I think a guy like Nolan is good for the film industry (he makes fresh, intelligent entertainment and has been successful enough that he calls the shots - hence little studio interference) So lets talk about Inception.

I was this close to making a thread about this. I can't wait to check it out - I know I probably beat this subject to death but I love Nolan's work. Four of his five mainstream films are among my all-time favorites, and the other one (Insomnia) is still a solid thriller.
I can't say a whole lot, aside from the fact that the previews look pretty incredible, because I've tried to hold myself back from reading any details about the plot. I want it to be like The Prestige, where I go in with only the most vague idea about the storyline. I can say that the cast looks pretty incredible, though - I'm a bit worried about Ellen Page, though - it seems like Nolan's weak point has often been the female lead.

I have Leonardo DiCaprio issues. As in I'd like to see him on fire.
All I could think when I saw the trailer was "Oh look, The Matrix with prettier pictures. But with my other least favorite actor."
Maybe I'll stay in and watch Memento again. Or the two Batmans. I completely agree with you, CH. I love Nolan.
I still love Scorsese, but I haven't seen a movie of his in years. Wonder why...

I usually hate DiCaprio, but he's surprised me lately. He was really good in The Departed and Shutter Island.
Oh, and what's wrong with Ellen Page?
Anywhoo, I think that Inception looks awesome, and I'm a huge Nolan fan, so I'll definitely be seeing it.

I have Leonardo DiCaprio issues. As in I'd like to see him on fire. I thought this for many, many years, stemming from Titanic. Lately, though, I think he's proved himself as a capable, serious actor, and I've mostly overcome my hatred.

There comes a point where one needs to stop torturing oneself. So I'm done. He's cast, I don't watch it.

The Chicago Tribune gave this movie three stars, and they hate everything. That being said, I was planning on seeing this. While I'm not really a DiCaprio fan, he was really good in Shutter Island and Gangs of New York.

He was awful in Gangs of New York, but you really only watch that movie because of Daniel Day-Lewis. He's definitely improved since, though.

Everyone was awful in gangs IMHO, even DDL's schtick didn't work for me with that one (he can be too, oh whats the word, mannered, stagey, broad? I don't know, but sometimes it works (The flick about oil) and sometimes I wanna smack him (Gangs)
But I thought Leo was great in Aviator, Revolutionary Road, This Boys Life...
I like Page, it'll be interesting to see her branch out into something different.

Incredible movie! Just got back, and I'll write a better description tomorrow (when I think of more superlatives), but I give it my highest recommendation.

Sia, have you seen "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" or "The Basketball Diaries"? They are DiCaprio pre-Titanic, and both are very good. I used to dislike him, too, but he won me over in "The Departed" and "Shutter Island."
I saw "Inception" today. In a word - awesome. Loved it. Must. See. It. Again.

I liked Leo in The Basketball Diaries (only a little bit of scenery chewing) and I can't hold him responsible for the Hatred that Titanic seems to bring out in some people.
But I first noticed Ellen Page in a movie called The Tracey Fragments. On another board, in the Most Disturbing Movie thread, I listed The Tracey Fragments. The girl can act. I never did see Juno, her big hit.

I thought she did a really good job in "Inception." It also had Cillian Murphy, one of my favorite actors.

Saw it. loved it. I don't quite understand why people say its so complicated but of course I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy where a lot of this kind of stuff was done 40 years ago. It's a lot better than the typical mindless Hollywood stuff nowadays.
