I finally saw this film. One single spoiler follows.
This movie was...wow. It was a blast. I thought it was incredible. I need to see this movie again on the big screen before it vanishes (I waited too long. The first two theaters I went to didn't have it anymore. Had to go over 45 minutes from my house to find it. I'd do it again.)
But then again, I exactly fit the target demographic in just about every way. Critics have been slamming this thing lately. Is it really so inaccessible for people who don't like video games, indie rock and comics?
Ultimately, it was different in a lot of ways from the books (for the record, it covers all six books from "Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life" to "Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour"), but it was different in mainly good ways. I thought for sure they wouldn't get to spoiler spoiler spoiler before the spoiler spoiler spoiler happened. But I was pleasantly surprised.

Best movie of the year. No more needs to be said.

I'm very tempted to agree with you, although the world at large will probably find fault with the assessment.
It easily ties with my favorite movie of the year (Toy Story 3), though I liked it for entirely different reasons.

The only film I've seen all year that could challenge Scott Pilgrim was Predators, but I edge out Pilgrim because it was one of the most unique cinematic experiences of my entire life. The only film I can think of that came close to doing what Pilgrim did was Crank, and while that movie was more hardcore, it was less artisticly done.
I have not read the original books, nor do I like Michael Cera (and even after this movie, I can't say that I enjoy him). Growing up with Mario, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat, I understood everything about this movie. It was wild, outrageous, fun, and made me want to break out some of the old NES games.
I also enjoyed The Punisher arresting Superman. I nerded out at that.

Loved it.
Great that it's its own complete story with an ending and not the first part of a series. If the other were the case then its horrible B.O. would be tragic, but since that isn't the case who cares if it didn't make any money? People will remember this movie.

I sure hope so. I heard someone say that this is a movie that will be "Loved by many instead of liked by everyone." That's probably the case, though I really do wish that it came out with more of a financial success. Sony invested a ton into the making and advertising of this movie, and while I'd really like to believe that we'll see more fun movies along the same lines, I can't think that the studio executives will see the market research and believe they made the right decision.
The good news, though, is that I doubt other movie studios will try to make a bunch of clone movies following the same formula. Nothing's worse than when one movie is really good and then dozens of other films come out slightly after to try and imitate the success.

just got home from seeing this. 9 times out of 10, if I like the main credits, I'm going to like the movie and I really enjoyed the main credit graphics. liked the little box's detailing who people were. liked the way Scott and everyone else talks in this film for example when Scott turns to 2 girls at a party and addresses them as "lady dudes". liked the music. toward the end I grew a little tired of the big showdown fight matches. liked how they filmed outdoors with snow on the ground. I had seen Inception the day before and couldn't even sit through it and walked out at some point but Scott Pilgrim was fun and inventive-a refreshing antidote to the serious mind babble of Inception

If you liked the film, you should look into one of the books its based on. The movie follows the plot of all seven books, though the books manage to get a few subplots and characters in that the film didn't.

^ I will check out the books...going to barnes and noble tonight. But I'm more a film guy so I'm happy with just the film experience of it. other things I remembered I liked: the song garbage truck someone says "she who will be nameless" (or something like that) the name Knives Chau and her character. the name Ramona Flowers. it was interesting listening to Ramona speak in a monotone way throughout. the character Comeau...it is pronounced CO mo in the film but my friend's last name is that and is pronounced co MO. didn't like as much: Ramona's hair style....not the different colors so much although I wasn't crazy about that either but those two long strans hanging down on either side. I know...I'm just nit picking. I will be buying this when it arrives of DVD

Wish I could view videos so that I could watch it. I've heard, though, that the video game was released with a lot of unfortunate bugs in it, and was generally not one of the highlights of the franchise.
Naturally, my hearing that doesn't make me want to play the game any less. A book/movie of that calibre's earned a tiny, tiny amount of fan-blindness from me. (An opinion I reserve the right to change if I get around to buying the game and it turns out to be even worse than I imagine.)

Considering how influenced by video games the story is, the fact that they turned it into an actual video game intrigues me. I may have to play it some day, but I'll read reviews first.

I was blown away by it. I love Edgar Wright and with this he's stepped into the elite in my opinion. One small problem, not with the film I might add, was that I went on opening day over here and the cinema was sold out. Great news for the film, not so great when you realise it's filled with geeky fanboys who complained quite loudly about it not living up to their expectations having read the comics.
