Cool! Sounds like fun. Show them "Final Sacrifice." How can you go wrong with that?
We had a showing of "The Movie" in a nearby theater a few years ago. That went over really well considering we are in the middle of nowhere.

Yeah, it's a whole lot of fun, plus it's a really cool theater. It's over 100 years old and has an upstairs balcony. It's the theater The Blob(1958) was shot in. Just a great atmosphere.
I've also got to start deciding on what prize I'm going to give away.

I love the idea of showing episodes of the show in a movie theater. Almost seems like that's how this show OUGHT to be watched. I mean, these are MOVIES after all, just with the funny commentary. Wish we had a theater here in LA that would try something like this.
Do you guys need to license the episodes you show? I can't imagine they're free showings.

We do license them. If you know of a small type theater, I'd recommend talking to someone over there. That's what I did and it worked out really well.
We're looking to do every other month showings starting in January.

can I ask what it costs to license? and then I would guess you have to rent the theater so how much was that? thanks for the info. I would LOVE to do the same up here in Ct.

I don't handle the licencing so I'm not sure. And I'm super lucky that the theater is a nonprofit independent place. I'm not renting it out, I'm working with their awesome producer to arrange the show.
On a tangent: trying to decide on an episode for March. Want an old scifi Joel episode. So which would you recommended? First Spaceship on Venus Crash of the Moons Manhunt in Space

Both are better than "First Spaceship", but I just think "Manhunt" has more consistent riffing than "Crash".

I think I enjoy First Spaceship on Venus more because it's actually a pretty decent movie, but as far as riffing goes, both of the Rocky Jones flicks are much better.

Yeah, I'm just going by the riff quality. If you are wanting to show "Venus" based on the movie actually being pretty good, then it should at least be presented in a nice widescreen format rather than the pan-and-scan used in the episode.

I wish I could make it to this- "WotLW" is easily my favorite MST3K episode ever.

I sent this suggestion to one of our local art houses, and they say they already do a live version of movie riffing every month. Specifically, this: www.cinefamily.org/calendar/events.html#doug_octoberSounds more ad-libbed than written, but it'd be nice if they at least acknowledged that they borrowed (or ripped-off, if you prefer) the concept from MST3K.

I just purchased the prizes for the pre-show trivia, so bone up on your Warrior of the Lost World and assorted MST3K trivia! (guess I should pick out some trivia questions soon, lol)
