"focusing more on Tweens than embracing their own legacy".
Something that has always bothered me about Disney (and Nickelodeon is guilty of this too), is how these two networks feel they have made musical superstars out of the stars of their TV shows....when in reality, they have a very small (at best) audience.

I do know that Disney has been repurposing old cartoons into both music videos and 2 minute mini-cartoons that air during commercial breaks.
Music video is self explanatory, but the 2 minute ones edit out 5 minutes of the cartoons but still retain the bare basics of the story - Mickey, Donald and the like's voices are rerecorded by the current voice actors for those characters.

I remember I accidentally switched to the Disney Channel once about a few months ago and they had a Pluto cartoon on. I stuck around and watched it, thinking "It's about time" but in the end it seemed to be commercial filler. I don't know how often Disney does this, but I still wish they had a set block for these. I imagine all the teen Hannah Montana fans get bored when they're waiting for more Miley.

I always had my Looney Tune fix from Nickelodeon while growing up, but I too didn't have the Disney Channel and always felt something was missing from my childhood, wishing the Disney Cartoons would be shown on television again.. I was a regular video tape renter of Donald and Goofy shenanigans, though. Same shorts over and over again, but enjoyed them every time. When I finally got the Disney Channel as a kid, pretty much the only thing I watched regularly was the Ink & Paint Club, Mickey's Mouse Tracks, and Donald's Quack Attack, which turned into a full hour of Disney Cartoon goodness. Nowadays not even the Disney Channel has these shorts anymore, focusing more on Tweens than embracing their own legacy. It's sad. They could at least do an early morning block for kids who haven't had the pleasure of seeing these shorts. Well, once Disney Junior gets launched...they could play the older cartoons on there...or on The Disney Channel!

I actually work at DC, and when I first came on in early 2000 they DID have an overnight block of classic Disney programs, I think called "The Disney Vault". It came on in the very early morning hours, and featured old cartoons, and even classic live-action stuff like Wonderful World of Disney* (not the Eisner ones!), "Adventures of Davy Crocket", "Spin & Marty", and even the old Mickey Mouse Club. Of course, they also didn't have a lot of ORIGINAL programming back then, so it was mostly shows/movies from the Disney library, acquired stuff, or things like "Ducktales" that were produced by outside Disney divisions like WDTV Animation.
Once the focus started on developing a stable run of original live-action "tween" sitcoms in 2001/2002 (and proved ridiculously successful), that "classic" library stuff pretty much went away. As mentioned, the Promo dept. will repurpose some of it now and then as interstitial filler, but I'd prefer they just showed it raw like they used to. I bet parents (and well, maybe even grandparents) would stay up late to watch it!
*some of these old WWoD shows are really cool. Things like "Behind-the-Scenes at the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland", or footage from when Tomorrowland first opened. Loved watching that stuff.

Jeez, watching Rocky and Bullwinkle episodes is like eating peanuts - you can't stop! (I got seasons 2,3, and 4 the other day)
I think I'm through with The Looney Tunes Golden Collections for now. I've yet to get volumes 4 and 6, and I think I'll wait till next Christmas for them. I want to space out the fun and not blow it all in the space of a few months. I'll focus on rounding out my collection of classic toons with some other stuff (like the Woody Woodpecker "Best of" release, Mickey and the Beanstalk, and the Droopy set).

I have all of the Looney Tunes Golden Collections, but not really anything else. Well, I have 2 $5 DVDs of pd cartoons, most of them not very good. I plan on getting the new Looney Tunes Super Stars DVDs, minus the Sylvester and Tweety one (everything on it has already been released on the golden collections).
Other cartoon collections I'm thinking to check out are Tom and Jerry, old Disney shorts, and perhaps some Woody Woodpecker
Any thoughts or suggestions? any cartoon series I've forgotten about?

I second Popeye. Popeye is awesome and the currently avaliable Volumes 1 - 3 contain all of the black and white cartoons (which were the best) and the picture is remastered and there's tons of bonus content.

I am I huge WB cartoon fan. I pre-ordered every Golden Collection and was incensed when they announced they wouldn't do them any more. There was a giant amount of cartoons still unreleased. Two of my absolute favorites, "Racketeer Rabbit" and "A Mouse Divided", both Friz Freleng cartoons, have yet to be released. I was so frustrated at that time that I started a discussion thread on Amazon asking people to name cartoons that they wished WB would have released on these sets. I still get feedback on it and it's great to see the fans still care.
I noticed no one mentioned "Beany and Cecil". Seeing that our favorite show has a slight connection to it, that surprised me. I loved Beany and Cecil. Until this day after certain songs and melodies, I add the line "A Bob Clampett Cartoooooon!" I remember one cartoon where they fly to the moon to visit an amusement park, where they had the weirdest rides imaginable. At the time I didn't realize it, but it was another Bob Clampett poke at Disney, something he so enjoyed doing.
I also loved "The Flintstones" and "The Jetsons", along with "Rocky and Bullwinkle" and "George of the Jungle".
Does anyone else here remember "The Mighty Heroes"?
