i watched the season premiere last night, just to see if it could possibly compare to the best selling book written by justin halpern about his father. i read the book a couple of months ago - loved it. gave it to my dad, who also loved it. i was dismayed to learn it was going to be a sitcom on cbs, though. if hbo or showtime had picked it up, it could have been really, really funny. the whole point of the book is how a father - he really loves his kids - but he talks to them like they are in perpetual boot camp. i wanted to see what shatner would do with the role, and he gets it, but he can't be true to the character if he has to edit his language. i'm not saying i support foul language that much, but that is who the father is, so i didn't think it really worked, despite shatner's timing for comedy. the guy who played his son (jonathan sadowski) was too flinchy and tried too hard (IMO). i did laugh when shatner's character commented on why no one could do a good impression of him. but other than that, i wasn't impressed. i hope it works, for shatner's sake, but i doubt i'll watch it again. but the book is AWESOME.

Meh, I can see this either getting cancelled after one season, maybe two, or pulling a "Yes Dear" and getting multiple seasons while not being that funny.

Really? Cause I see it not lasting even one season, which is sad cause I love the book and Shatner, like the OP says it's just not near as good as the book and they have to edit him, it's a shame.

This show sucks. I watched an episode and I didn't think it was remotely funny.
