So I recently finished a marathon on my beloved My Name is Earl DVDs. When I watched the last episode I reached for the case to put in the next disc and realized that...there wasn't one. An overwhelming sadness came over me. "What now?" I asked. I wanted to laugh, damnit.
So I went through all the comedy series I have in my head and the only one that sounded like it might hit the spot is Get Smart.
I've had the complete series for ages, but alas, once finishing the set, I found myself to be Smart-ed out (that Smarts! :rimshot: ). I dusted it off and watched select episodes in the hype of the Steve Carrell movie (which I loved, for the record), but other than that, I haven't ventured into it a second time.
I think the time has come to watch the series from beginning to end once again. Truely the greatest spy satire that has ever been.
Anybody else a fan of this series?

I haven't seen much of the series in a long time, but when I was a kid it was my favorite show on television. That and Dragnet, which doesn't make nearly as much sense.
I've had Get Smart in my Netflix queue as long as I've had a Netflix queue but it hasn't made its way to my house yet. This thread has me thinking that I might want to bump it up the list a little bit.
Edit: Just realized that it's kind of fitting that I was the first to reply to this, seeing as my profile picture has been Edward Platt (Halloween aside) since I first signed up here.

I'm a fan, particularly of the earlier episodes, but I think the show definitely ran its jokes into the ground by the end. I'm sure at least part of that feeling is from having been around constant reruns of the show on TV Land for much too long, but I do feel like the show hung around a bit too long for its own good.
I think the movie was pretty good, too, for the record.

The fifth season is definately the weakest. I blame that on it being renewed by a competing network and the show being put into different hands.
That said, while I didn't really think the marriage of Max and 99 was the right direction for the show, a lot of the episodes in the fourth season are hands down the most fall down funny of the series.

I almost always enjoy this whenever I catch it, though that's not always often. Sometimes good ol' slapstick infused with puns is the only way to go.

I was a major fan as a kid--my father was, too, so we really enjoyed it together.
I don't own a tv so don't get the nick and nite sort of steady viewing of this that I know one could for some years there (maybe still), but I've watched 1-3 lately, and I was pleasantly suprised how well it held up. There's this bit in the movie, A Man Called Smart, where they're taking a fake-injured Smart strapped into a stretcher out of the hotel's revolving door...this is classic wordless comedy, and I'd put it up against any Marx Brothers or Laurel and Hardy bit. I laughed til I cried.

I loved the original series and the Steve Carrell movie. I have all five seasons on DVD and while I agree that the the show lost steam toward the end , it's still one of my top ten favorite series.
