SHout Factory has released a statement that they have acquired the rights to the entire Gamera series run. I don't know if this is already news that is known or what. But, hey I just found out about it. So maybe this has to do with Volume 21?
Now keep in mind this is for the original Japanese cuts. However, since the have the rights to put out on DVD would it be a stretch for them to get the other necessary ducks in a row for Volume 21 or 22?

Brian Ward from Shout Factory said on the SF forum that, despite getting the rights, the Gamera eps are still not likely, simply because the Gamera people don't want them released in that form and made fun of.

This has been well known for over a year. It's pretty evident that SHout has no plans to release the MST versions of Gamera.

Yeah, this is very old news. In fact, Shout has released six of the eight original Gamera films already. All this means is that Shout has their foot in the door, but it's an entirely different contract.

I've been MIA on this board for a while but I had to pop in and say that this is the best news I've heard in just about forever.
I have to say that it was shrewd on Shout's part to wait a whole year and get their money's worth from releasing the original Gamera DVD's first before issuing the MST'ed versions. Still, I have a feeling it'll be well worth the wait.

I wonder if this Gamera set constitutes volume XXI or if it will be given it's own special title (like Essentials was).

This was not funny starting this thread on a week we're all waiting for exciting box set news. I hope the news made your week a little better and this thread a little more palatable. And to those who didn't believe we would see official Gamera all I can say is. It would never have made sense for SF to get the rigths to the Gamera series and then not try to get the MST versions out. A little misdirection never hurt either. MAZEL-TOV!!!
