I just got word. Was so busy watching my MST3k Turkey Day Marathon (complete with Turkey Day bumpers and Night of the Bloodbeast) and still buzzed on tryptophan, I almost forgot to check for the super neat-o Turkey Day Shout Factory announcement. Gotta say... This is huge!
I hope that the episodes are in good shape, like the last set (XIX). If they are, the next two sets are going to be so absolutely awesome! Really looking forward to this! 5 whole episodes in one set! That's pretty epic in itself--but the fact that they are Gamera is so @#$% cool! Hoorah, huzzah, and all that jazz! I love both Mike and Joel, but being that I started watching the show back in 1991, I'm very nostalgic and slightly favor some of these older episodes... so, its great to have so many Joel episodes that were believed to never be released (Master Ninja I & II, Gamera eps) coming in such quick succession. Can't wait for these sets. Wow! Nice job to Shout for finding a loophole in order to get these much beloved episodes to release!

This is seriously wonderful. Something about season 3 really makes it stand out for me, and I'm thrilled that between two sets we're getting 7 episodes from that season.
It's strange, though. Season 5 is probably my pound for pound favorite, but 3 just works so well. The film selection from that season was probably the very best. It was diverse in that it had bad 80's movies, tv shows turned into movies, big rubber monsters, other crazy japanese crap, classic 50's sci fi horror. The only thing the season is missing is a Russo-Finish film and it might be perfect.
Anyway, didn't mean to wax all poetic on season 3, but this is so, so exciting. I know it's a long shot we'll see much more of the season outside of "Castle of Fu Manchu," and "Stranded in Space," but it's nice to finally see such a great season get some representation.

I've got Beginning of the End and Incredibly Strange Creatures, but, being the completist, I will buy the new ones for the new material.
BY THE WAY: The Rhino Beginning of the End has both the MST3K version AND the uncut film on it.
The Gamera box, all from season 3 (one of their best, IMHO) is a treat!

Wow - I mean really, wow. I guess I wasn't paying attention as I didn't even realize there was a big announcement coming. Shout Factory is tearing it up lately! And in a bit of serendipity I actually watched Gamera vs. Guiron with a couple of old MST3K-watching buddies last night to close our Thanksgiving (it was the only episode we got in). Unreal. And proper license or not, I'm pre-ordering this one. Just to be safe

I'm glad I was alone when I read this announcement because I screamed like a little girl. OMG! Holy crap! I'll guess this Gamera set will be released in July as set XXI.
edit- I did not read page 2. This is confirmed to be XXI. Sweet. They should release it ASAP before Sandy Frank has a chance to foil Shout's plans. MUAAH HA HA

This is confirmed to be XXI. Sweet. They should release it ASAP before Sandy Frank has a chance to foil Shout's plans. MUAAH HA HA i'm not sure Frank can, unless he wants to sue either the third party Shout! got the deal with or sue Shout! to stop the set. Like Ward said, they didn't go through Frank, they didn't deal with the Japanese, they used a third party and got the rights. So, seems to be pretty safe. But yes, I'm not waiting long on the Gamera set either, just in case. The treat for me is I've only seen two of the Gamera movies, so three of the five will be totally new MST experiences for me, so so much the better. As for TISCWSLABMUZ and Beginning of the End, I have the Rhino copy for Beginning and my taped off TV copy for... that other movie. That being said, I'll look at what Shout! Select is offering and if it's good extras, I'll bite, especially in the hope that we'll get other movies from the "lost" Rhino volumes as individual releases in the not too distant future. I am well pleased. Thanks Shout!

Incredible news. I've got both the single disc episodes but if the extras are good I'd be willing to get them again, for the right price.
The Gamera set is just great. Obviously the KTMA versions won't be on it as an extra and given as they're very poor that's probably a blessing.
All hail Shout and the great work they're doing.

Awesome news all around!
I just ordered XIX online, so I'm all set for the new sets! Can't wait for XX and XXI, and those single dvds will be cool treats. 2011 will be an awesome MST3K year!

Great news indeed, I absolutely love the boxset title MST3K vs Gamera. I would have even liked Destroy All Turtles or something similar. Bravo, Shout! for giving us an opportunity to see clean Gamera prints. This goes to show any MST3K episode is up for grabs if the circumstances are right... well maybe not Squirm but almost every episode.
