It has been a little while since I've seen Leonard. I don't think it's particularly awful from my memory, and I might even say it's enjoyable to a certain extent. Of course, it is infamous for Cosby's own lambasting of it and it does seem to be universally knocked by critics.
In the end, I can only say one thing: name one good Cosby movie vehicle other than Bill Cosby, Himself.

Gotta be careful when riffing bad comedy. I've heard commentary on the few times that MST3K went after intentional comedies, like Catalina Caper, and you end up really just joking about "Bad Setup" and "Poor Execution" instead of the absurdity of the plot (comedies tend to already have absurd plots and make attention to it, so really nothing to riff on there). It's why I don't think we'll ever see a (good) riff on the parody films, since it'd just be talking about how bad the jokes are when you're supposed to be making jokes to make a movie funny. The more serious a film takes itself (and fails to be serious) the better it is for riffing.

well honestly though it is a film that will NEVER be winning any awards. i actually enjoy this film. i always have. it's one of my favorite films. i think it's really cause whenever i watch i don't take the film seriously & never have. i look at it in the vein like 'Police Squad" no i'm not saying it's as good at that show or film. but on how it's written. i just get a kick out of it. i've always wanted to ask Bill Cosby IF he thinks the film is THAT damn bad. than why do it?
he was doing "The Cosby Show" at the time money was coming in.he wasn't in dire of it. why do it than? his show was in the top 10 i believe at the time.
& to be honest there are FAR WORSE films out there than this one. 'No Country for old men' is one of them. that one bored me to death when i saw it. damn near put me in a coma. i'd LOVE to see the guys riff that one.

i think if a comedy is so bad and dry, you could riff something out of it. Because its supposed to be funny and its NOT. lol. Good comedys are proly something they won't do. Like thier not gonna watch the holy grail. Because then its like, we are trying to say we are funnier then monty python.

Well, there are the three comedies he did with Sidney Poitier ("Uptown Saturday Night", "Let's Do It Again" and "A Piece of the Action"). "Mother, Jugs and Speed" was OK, and he did a surprisingly dark P.I. movie with Robert Culp called "Hickey & Boggs". Those are worth watching."Leonard, Part 6" was quite, quite bad, though. In the end, I can only say one thing: name one good Cosby movie vehicle other than Bill Cosby, Himself.

i think the only one i saw was Mother,Jugs & Speed and i love that film. i haven't seen all of Cosby's films to be honest. but like i said i've seen far far far fsr far far far worse films than Leonard Part 6. in fact i bought the VHS of it a few years back. i think at the time it wasn't on dvd yet. i've always wished he'd go back to films rather than tv. I even Enjoy Ghost Dad even though that's not one of his best films. i loved it as a kid and it's got some good memories for me as well. so does Leonard Part 6.

Now that you mention it, I may have seen a snippet of "Jugs" on television some years ago while my father was still alive. I may have to consider giving it a look.
I have to also agree with Mitchell in that I have some fondness for "Ghost Dad". I suppose what I look at is the irony that, while I consider Bill Cosby one the greatest stand-up comedians if not THE greatest, his films don't measure up to the hilarity of perhaps Steve Martin's vehicles.

Ghost Dad gets a LOT of flack as the years go on and to a degree i can see why. but i saw that one as a kid and i loved it and i still enjoy it. is it a great movie? no it's not but it's not trying to be either. i love Bill Cosby and i dunno about all his movies i haven't seen them all to be fair. he also had a small part in "Jack' in (1996) that's the one where Robin Williams Ages and that one gets a lot of flack as well. and i like that film, i could not tell you the last time i saw it to be fair.
but it's one i don't mind watching everyone once in a blue moon. Ghost Dad prolly does Copy the film "Ghost' i dunno what came out 1st. but mother jugs, and speed i really highly recommend that one.
