So, as I post here in the Midwest, seeing the snow rising up over the stoop, preparing to make its assault on my front door, hearing the howl outside that could either be drift-causing wind or the nearing polar wolves that have started appearing, I find myself wondering how other people might be affected by the appearance of Fimbulwinter, the veritable snowmageddon (sno-gmarok?)
I had a day off thanks to it, and the way it looks right now I'm gonna have another day off tomorrow. Snow Day! WOOOO! Less money, but I get to stay inside and sip hot chocolate.

It's -6 right now here on the plains with a 25 mph northwest wind blowing. The windchill is scary. We've had seven inches of snow and serious drifting the past 48 hours, and we're missing most of the really nasty stuff to the south and east. That's been routine in the Dakotas the last two winters, unfortunately. Sounds awful in other places right now, though. Good luck out there, everybody

This is really scary. Seriously. I've never heard wind like this.

Coldest temps in over 20 years here in Denver tonight.
But it's nothing compared to when we had our 100-year blizzard back in 2003. I'll never forget it. So stay warm, Chicago friends.

Well, part of Wrigley Field came off in the wind, if the Internet Rumor Mill is to be believed.
Woohoo, windy city!

How long til this ends up in Sloane? It has that feel, which is probably why I'm confused. There's no good way to say this, so I'll just blurt it out. It's 83 degrees outside right now.

That seemed like a pretty good way to say it to me. I mean, it wasn't in iambic pentameter or anything that would make it a superb way to say it, but...yeah, I'd say that was a pretty good way to say it.
I think the reason it started off so goofy is that I called it Fimbulwinter, which sounds silly. It's actually a term from Norse mythology about a "great big winter" that heralded the end of the world. But without explanation it sounds goofy.
So if it winds up in Sloane, it's my fault. I should've known better. (Plus Sloane already *has* an apocalyptic blizzard thread, so this'd be overkill...)

I really wanted it to be dactylic hexameter, but I just couldn't make it work.

The wind along the Lakefront was 70 mph last night.
Hundreds of people in cars and buses were stranded on the Drive.

The car situation in my county: it was possible to drive the car to within two miles of the house. Then it had to be parked in someone else's driveway, and hitchhiking in a truck that was more snow capable happened.
